Liverpool Agree £25m Deal For Portuguese Star

According to reports in Correio da Manha, Premier League giants Liverpool have agreed a fee of £25m for Benfica left back Fabio Coentrao.

Kenny Dalgish is set to move for the 23-year old full back who has been linked with a string of high profile clubs across Europe, including Premiership rivals Chelsea and Man City.

Liverpool have made a left back their top priority in the summer and have been linked with Everton’s Leighton Baines, Arsenal’s Gael Clichy and Newcastle’s Jose Enrique in recent months.

However, it looks like we’ve now set our sights on Coentrao with the Portuguese international now being tipped to make a big money move to Anfield this summer.

The bookmakers don’t seem to have caught up with this story yet as they are still offering lengthy odds of 12/1 Coentrao will end up at Liverpool. Those are excellent odds, especially if these reports are accurate, but you can get even better odds by using a Bet365 bonus code before placing your bet.

Nothing has been confirmed by the club as yet, but this rumour is developing quickly, so watch this space!

UPDATE: As pointed out in the comments section, sources are now claiming a deal is in place with Real Madrid for Coentrao. It seems the rumour of a move to Liverpool originated from an old article on Correio de Manha, seen here.

Sorry, the story on the Correia de Manha site from today says he’s going to be a Real Madrid player. No mention of Liverpool. The news that he’s going to Liverpool must be a hoax.

it never said he had SIGNED just that a fee had been agreed, so it could be that liverpool thought if that what we need to bid then we will too. but im not sure if i believe the story untill i see it on

Not having it at all, he’ll go to a club playing champions league and willing to pay him stupid money, for now Liverpool need to keep their targets realsitic, which i’m sure behind the scenes they are.

Smartest Liverpool fan I have ever listened to, REALISTIC PEOPLE, Enrique, Cahill, Adam, N’Zogbia, Defoe and we will be fine

        May 25, 2011 at 4:59 pm

I’m all for being realistic but DEFOE!?!? 4 league goals in a season DEFOE?!? Christ, he could really give Davey N’gog a run for his money like that couldn’t he. He’s pushing 29 and would cost at least £6mil, probably more, on account of being English. Okay for other clubs but not for us. Doesn’t make sense to spend so much on an older player with little resale value who would be third choice (maybe fourth after Dirk if we buy a right-mid).

I could name ten better targets in Britain than him for up front:

        1. Doyle
        2. Hooper
        3. Long
        4. Maynard
        5. Fletcher
        6. Bothroyd
        7. Sinclair
        8. Goodwillie

        9. Pacheco
        10. Any of Morgan, Ngoo…anyone really.

They should all leave money to be spent elsewhere and be pretty cheap. They also all have room to grow (even Bothroyd as he has matured late in his career).

I’ll ask my mate Meffin, he’ll know the score, if not Craig can ask Joe Cole if he knows anything.

    22 Maio 2011 – 22h45

Vieira no mercado à procura do sucessor.

Fábio Coentrão será jogador do Real Madrid.

this news is absolutely false the dude has already completed a move to real madrid. So i can reassure that the benfica left-back fabio coentrao is now a real madrid player. Ashley young is also on his way to join our archrivals man u. Hazard ain’t comin’ to anfield no more. Aquilani leavin’ at last. But lets be realistic..if liverpoolfc fails to sign world class players this summer, i’m afraid to say we won’t make it to europe next season for d second straight season not to even talk of winning d league title. Guess we r declining 4 now!

Look, wake up folks. The transfer window in both England and Spain is NOT OPEN YET! Deals can be agreed but they cannot be signed, end of story. So this story could be true, we might have agreed a deal. But then RM might have too. Who the heck knows? Answer: nobody except those on the inside so I’m afraid you’ll have to do the same as the rest of us: Wait and see!

Deals can be signed but the players can’t join until the 1st of July even tho technically they have gone. Ath Madrid has agreed terms and contract with Utd already its only the fact that he is going to terminate his agents contract because his dad or some other agent will be appointed which is holding up proceedings but will be completed next week, so your wrong

        May 25, 2011 at 10:08 pm
