Seriously, Why?! Michael Owen’s Contract Extension…

Really don’t understand the recent move be Sir Alex Ferguson to hand Michael Owen a one year extension to his current contract with the Old Trafford outfit.

I seriously don’t know how many years the 31 year old has left before his expiration date, just 16 appearances under his belt this year and a mere 5 goals in return, but although it must be noted that Owen’s 16 appearances have mostly come from the bench.

There was a lot of speculation to do with Owen’s future prior to this announcement by the club, with form and fitness repeatedly halting him from playing, however Owen has reiterated on numerous occasions his intentions of staying at the club and fighting for a place, hence perhaps winning that elusive contract for himself.

I’m delighted to have agreed a one-year extension to my contract

Michael Owen told the club webiste

Well, if this is to prove a masterclass or simply a waste-of-money, it’s yet to be seen, but with the type of form that Hernandez and Rooney have been showing, it’s definitely going to be hard to break into that Red Devil’s first team.

So good decision or bad decision? It’s your turn! Write down your thoughts in the comments section below!

Remember Solskjaer? A good striker on the bench is always nice to have. Sir Alex knows how to bring out the very best from his players..

How can it be a waste of money if he is on a pay-per-play deal as the papers say?

Owen is a pretty decent striker who doesn’t mind being on the bench and doesn’t cost too much. What’s not to like? He’s at United for the glory, not the money.

It’s more of a hindrance than a waste. He’s only going to get in the way of Danny Welbeck,

i think the main reason his kept him is for the expererince. he knows how to score at crucial times and van der sar retiring so is neville and scholes we dont have that much experiene in the squad.
please fegie we need to get either modric or sniejder and for back up adam

I think this is a sign that united will not be competitive in the transfer market but instead looking for cheap bargains.

Its simple, he’s backup in case chicarito is injured or needs rest.
he’s a quality finisher who will happily sit on the bench as squad/cover player

Injuries heat Owens fitness such that he could not appear in many games played during the season. let Owen given chance to prove his ability.

Owen has spent most of his life injured. He does still have a fantastic minutes played:goals scored ratio though. Definately worth keeping as back-up.

Why give Owen a new contract? what a stupid question, that only a fool wearing blinkers would ask.

Instead of just looking at his goal scoring ratio which is well above the average, 16 appearances, which includes many as a sub,5 goals this season.

Whats more important is what he will give back to the team, players and strikers such as Chicarito, in terms of learning from his experience, technique and influence.

I for one am very pleased SAF kept him.

p.s anyone think l’pool will seriously challenge for the Premiership next season? then look at the table…22 points behind. Please don’t talk about their poor start etc, every team went through a dip in form.

Did yo use the word technique and Michael Owen in the same sentence? Bwahahahaha!

I believe Danny Welbeck is due back from loan. Owen is superfluous..

this shows that alex ferguson doesn’t like to correct his fast wrong doings, becouse extending owen’s contract is mediocrity,so let him buy new face for the club who can help us achieve our terget that is champions league not premiere league.

You all smack internet webpages with nonsenses. Sir Alex is the best coach on the planet and he believe that signing Owen is better than keeping tortoise-chase striker Berbatov.

You don’t sign Owen but Ferfuson signed him.
