[VIDEO] Suarez 1-1 Kuyt : Liverpool Strikers Both Score As Uruguay Beat Holland In Shootout

By on June 9, 2011

Suarez managed to put one over his counterpart after his Uruguayan side came out 4-3 winners on penalty’s after the scores remained level at 1-1 after regulation and extra time.

Both scored late goals in the game and Suarez must have thought that he had already won the Copa Confraternidad in Montevideo after he scored in the 82nd minute. Cavani picked out Suarez wonderfully for Suarez to cooly finish into the back of the net.

But the game wasn’t over, as Dirk Kuyt managed to get the last say in regulation time after rescuing Holland (at least for a while) in stoppage time with Kuyt scoring a header from a corner to ensure that the game would continue into extra time.

Extra time was quiet, to say the least. Chances were scarce and play was broken down a little too often for any real entertainment. In the penalty shootouts, Lodeiro’s (Uruguay) penalty was saved by Tim Krul, only to see his effort go to waste after Eljero Elia’s penalty too was missed.

The losing penalty was ultimately Arsenal’s Robin Van Persie’s penalty after he blasted high and wide. Watch all the action below…
