TRANSFER NEWS: Arsenal Target Dominant Defensive Duo

Arsenal are in talks with Bolton’s Gary Cahill and Blackburn’s Chris Samba. Arsene Wenger has finally accepted that his defensive line needs strengthen and wants proven Premiership defenders.

Wenger was believed to be in talks with a double move for Blackburn duo Chris Samba and Phil Jones, but the 19-year old has opted for a £16million move to Old Trafford. However, Samba is still very much on the radar at the Emirates and could be an Arsenal man for around £12 million.

The Arsenal chief is expected to move for the classier defender Cahill, but Wenger will not meet the £20million valuation set by Bolton’s hierarchy. Wenger was hoping to secure a move for around £15million and include a fringe player as part of the deal reports the Mirror.

Manchester City have also been linked with a potential move for Cahill and Wenger could find himself priced out for the England star, but Wenger is hoping Arsenal will have more appeal that a move to the Midlands.

Agree with you Stu. Get rid of squillaci and if CLichy is leaving, deploy Vermaelen and the left and have Samba and Cahill and the centre partners. Koscielny and Djourou as back ups,

I don’t think we r too far away from having a real chance….Samba, Vertonghen, Willian, Chamberlain, Gervinho! Bring back loanees….Frimpong, Lansbury,Miyaichi, Vela and we have depth in the squad!

I don’t think tv could play in the wing. Maybe he can but that’s not his real position. He’s natural born fighter so go around in the flank is not match with his character

vermaelen plays lb for belgium and is very effective. He could also become our DM beast to rival Song or on occassions play alongside him.

not all of us are sick of his transfer policy. all the others clubs spending £20mil on 19 year olds whereas arsenal have one of the best youth academys in the world. if wenger spent that type of money on unproven players like henderson then the club would add more debt to the £130mil that we are already in, and then look at where liverpool finished this season with £35mil carroll.
