Transfer Chaos At The Emirates

Arsenal are reportedly set to splash in the summer transfer market on the 1st of July when they will announce the signings of Argentine starlet Ricky Alvarez, Ivory Coast international Gervinho, and Southampton midfielder Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain. It looks as if Wenger is finally spending the money it takes to top the Premier League.

The question remains, is Wenger spending the money wisely? Coming into the summer transfer market, Wenger expressed the need for his club to get bigger and taller players that can make an impact in the heart of their defense. However, none of these new signings are defensive players, more specifically centre-backs, which many view as Arsenal’s major weakness.

Wenger’s sense of urgency – or lack thereof – recruiting a centre-back partner for Thomas Vermaelen must be questioned. Not only have the Gunners failed to wrap up Samba or Cahill yet, but Wenger continues to not let go of midfielder of Cesc Fabregas. The Spanish playmaker had a subpar year in 2010-11 and was absolutely dreadful in the Champions League defeat to Barcelona.

Yet the problems around the Emirates do not end there. French midfield maestro Samir Nasri has stated that he wants to be atop the Gunners weekly wages list and rumours that he is willing to leave the club to join Premier League champions Manchester United have unsettled many Arsenal supporters.

What do you think Arsenal’s biggest priority should be this summer?

i don’t understand people’s interpretation of the Cesc scenario – (‘Wenger won’t let go of Cesc’!) In order for Wenger to ‘Let go” someone has to be doing some pulling!?

Barcelona haven’t show the desire to get Cesc so what’s to let go!

    Once again, ‘invented speculation’.

For Arsenal I would recommend this hot prospect striker:

Only young but got a big future and already had some experience with a big team – Bebe

Bertie, what a deluded comment – bebe was absolutely useless at MU. He is not a hot prospect striker and does not have a big future… was an absolute flop

cahill and samba would be my 1st priorities, but the injection of power and pace with the signings of gervinho, mata and alvarez would show great intent on all fronts.

What a stupid, ridiculous take on the Arsenal’situation’. Wenger has been on holiday, he is now back in his office. The international transfer window is not open till 1st July. Talks resume with Nasri, who has also been holiday, this week. Barcelona will not come up with a sensible offer for Fabregas. So how is it chaos? There have not been any signings at Chelsea, Spurs, Man City to name three of our main rivals, are they in a state of chaos as well? What a brainless article.

Again Arsene is going after mid fielders . Why Arsenal is not focusing on their defense ?

They must sign Samba & Subotic and a Goalie like Shay Given who is available .

Wenger really needs to sort out who is staying before he knows what is going on, or preferably take it as read that Clichy, Nasri, Cesc, Bendtner and Denilson are all going. Then if any of them stay (that you want to stay) then that is a bonus. Here is my rundown of what is what on the defensive side.

GK – Sczesney, Fabianski, Mannone, Almunia, Shea, Martinez, McDermott – 7 keepers, personally i do not think any new recruits are needed here although i would be tempted to replace Almunia with Lehmann allowing Mannone, Shea and Martinez to gain loan experience.

RB – Sagna, Eboue, Hoyte, Jenkinson, Hajrovic (Koscielny, Squillaci, Djourou, Eastmond, Coquelin, Boateng and Angha can also play there) Not sure any more reqruits are required here, but i would be tempted to sell Eboue and try to get Jagielka.

LB – Clichy, Gibbs, Traore, Botelho, Brislen-Hall (Vermaelen, Koscielny, Jenkinson, Miquel, and Monteiro can also play there) Clichy looks set to leave and Botelho looks certain to go on loan again. If Wenger does not sign a new LB then he has to surely sign 2 centre halves and move Vermaelen to LB. If heis to buy a LB then Baines would be my choice or Enrique although i am unsure if he is much of an improvement on Gibbs and Traore who are both “homegrown”

CH – Vermaelen, Djourou, Koscielny, Squillaci, Bartley, Miquel, Boateng, Angha, Monteiro. (Song and Hoyte can also play there) Wenger has clearly stated we need improvement here. 1 new centre half will be ok if he is tall and we buy a new left back. Personally i want us to sign Samba and Cahill with Vermaelen switching to LB (where he plays for Belgium). I want us to sell Squillaci but that would be like Wenger admitting he got it wrong. Squillaci is a better RB and even DM than he is an CB so that could be an option. Bartley and Miquel can gain some EPL loan experince.

DM – Song, Diaby, Denilson, Frimpong, Coquelin, Edge (Squillaci, Vermaelen, Koscielny, Bartley, Wilshire, Ramsey, Ozyakup can also play there) Denilson wants out, takje what you can get. Personally i would sell Diaby as well whilst buying Parker and Barton. That would allow Frimpong and Coquelin to gain some EPL loan experience.

Part 2 – Offensive options coming up.

This is great analysis of our current squad…..may be you could also analyze what the best formation for arsenal would, i personally think we should return to 4-4-2……

I’m getting really bored with the will they wont they sign, he is coming, he is not coming……I would love something to happen, as time goes on i get more and more frustrated… we should be going all out to bring in players before we nip off to malaysia etc.
My view would be, get rtid of Fabregas, while we can get good money for him, believe me Barca will manage to drag the money in from somewhere if they want him bad enough. Nasri is a big worry if we are led to believe the annoying rumors. He would be a great signing. Gervhino wants in…again apparently as does Samba.. My original thoughts after the season ended was that we were not very far away, Cahill, Parker and Benzema would of got my juices flowing, Benzema now just a weak rumor but if madrid were to bring in Neyma, maybe benzema would become available? also upson (free agent) is surely better that squillaci…i even think i might be better than him. May be a stop gap for now.. i am told 30th june is the BIG DATE when contracts end and 1st July they start, lets hope we bring in the right quality otherwise i can see us slipping down and being left behind

Someone mentioned in the comments that these two defenders hyped by the press are not so much an improvement on our current CBs and I totally agree. We seem to forget so much how KOS was truely awesome. Granted he made us pay for his mistakes but who didn’t in the last season?. Whoever comes in at CB who will deputise for TV and KOS our great and mean defence for the new season. And something just tells me Wenger will not sign a defender!

    June 28, 2011 at 12:41 pm

Top priority MUST be a big CB – the rest is cover but CB isessential for first 11. We must buy at least 1 of: Subotic,Hummels,Huth,Samba or Cahill (Huth best option imo). Then we really should (if we want to be a great team) buy a DM (Parker,Diarra,Hitzelsperger…any beast) and a striker who will hit 15 goals a season minimum (Falcao best option but gervinho, defoe or Benzema all ok too). If we sell Cesc then replace him with Alvarez. As for keeper – get in an experienced keeper for the squad (like Green,Sorensen…) and loan out Mannone or fabianski.sell Almunia asap…
