REPORTS: Liverpool Turn Attention To Aaron Lennon & Moussa Sissoko

tottenham news

Aaron Lennon and Moussa Sissoko are the latest players added to Liverpool’s growing list of transfer targets.

Liverpool’s director of football Damien Comolli is working over time as he looks to seal Stewart Downing and Charlie Adams signature in the near future.

Comolli will then switch his attention to the right hand side of the Liverpool midfield. The club is desperate to add pace and creativity to the side and have being crying out for a winger for years now.

The Liverpool hierarchy believes that Lennon would fit the bill perfectly and Comolli’s old relationship with Spurs chairman Daniel Levy could help make the deal a realistic possibility.

However Spurs will not just give away their England international who has three years left on his current contract meaning Liverpool will have to fork out a figure believed to be £20m to get the players signature.

That would take Kenny Dalglish’s 2011 spending close to £100m after splashing out £35m for Andy Carroll and £23m for Luis Suarez in January, and a further £20m on Sunderland England Under-21 midfielder Jordan Henderson.

Spurs are insistent that they want to keep all their key players and are resisting any offers for Chelsea target Luka Modric as well as PFA Player of the Year Gareth Bale. Spurs are also desperate to raise funds so Harry Redknapp can add reinforcements to his sqaud. Meaning Lennon could still be sold at the right price.

The wide man was one of Comolli’s first signings as Tottenham’s director of football in 2005 and Liverpool and Comoli will hope he can make history repeat itself.

Toulouse’s Moussa Sissoko dubbed as the next Patrick Vieira is also on the Liverpool radar however Newcastle United are also interested in the players services as well as former European Champions Inter and French giants Lyon.

The 21 year old midfielder is keen to make a high profile move and his agent insists he has a number of clubs fighting for the players attention. However Toulouse will not let their start go without a fight and are holding out for an offer of €15 million (£13.3m).

Are Liverpool looking at the right targets? Should the club switch its focus from midfield to other areas of the team? Is Comolli’s methodical approach to signing players a good tactic in the transfer market? Are the Reds paying the right amount for these players or is it too much?
