Transfer Special: Arsenal Transfer Dealings Assessed

We’re continuing with our summer feature here on Two Liverpool Fans and today we’re looking at the important transfer news involving Arsenal.

First Topic: Keeping Fabregas

It’s fair to say that Arsene Wenger has already frustrated his captain on many occasions thanks to his reluctance to sell his star man. The problem with them keeping Fabregas is that his heart and sole wouldn’t be into the game. He wants the Barcelona move and it is clear for all to see. And well, the problem with selling Fabregas? It’s not having Fabregas in your team.

Wonderful vision, brilliant passing execution, along with his ability to be a gamechanger with a goal here and there. The club’s captain, and selling Fabregas would almost definitely trigger the other players following the Spaniard out of London in the summer. It’s fair to say that Arsene Wenger has already played his aces and that it is only a matter of time before the Spaniard goes.

I personally think that he’s going this summer.

Second Topic: Keeping Nasri

Another key man who is keen on leaving Arsenal for greener pastures elsewhere in the summer. Perhaps Arsenal’s star man of the season in light of Fabregas’ absence through injury for large periods of time. Manchester United and Manchester City are both interested in bringing the Frenchman to Manchester in the summer.

A wonderful left winger, Arsenal would struggle to replace him with another in time for next season. Do I think he is leaving in the summer? I personally think that this move will eventually not follow through (at least for this summer) and Arsene Wenger will try and keep him at least until the January transfer window.

Besides, remember when he said he wanted to be on pay parity with Fabregas if he won the Premier League player of the year award? Well, he didn’t, so I really don’t see how he really has any right to argue with Arsenal over his current contract situation.

Third Topic: Replacing Clichy

Talking about contract rebels, they don’t come much bigger than Gael Clichy, who seems destined to leave Arsenal in the summer. So the question now is who should replace the man. Among the left backs that Arsenal are interested in include Celtic defender Izaguirre and Jose Enrique.

I think that Arsenal should go ahead and sign Newcastle defender Enrique simply because his playing style does have some resemblance to that of Clichy’s game, moving forward and spreading the ball around. Along with that, he’s quality with the cross and his tackling is pretty decent as well. There really is a reason why many clubs are chasing after him.

Fourth Topic: Splashing The Cash

Arsenal have lots of money in the bank as of now, and they look like they’re going to sell Nasri and/or Fabregas sometime soon, so I have put together a small list of players who Arsenal should at least consider buying with their money.

  • David Villa (Barcelona are unsure over keeping him beyond this summer)
  • Yoann Gourcuff (dismal season, but still a quality midfielder, and he would come cheap)
  • Diego Ribas (another one who has had a dismal season, but he would fit right in at Arsenal)
  • Jan Vertonghen (a good solid defender, he has even played alongside Vermaelen on many occasions)
  • Eden Hazard (if Nasri leaves in the summer)
