Chelsea Preparing Next Move For Modric

Chelsea are still on the hunt for Tottenham playmaker Luka Modric, however the Guardian claims that Chelsea boss Andre Villa-Boas will assess his squad before authorising another bid for the midfielder.

Chelsea have already had a £22m bid rejected by Tottenham with Chairman Daniel Levy stating the player is not for sale at any price. Spurs boss Harry Redknapp was quick to vent his disgust at the amount offered by Chelsea, claiming “There are people being sold for £20m who are not fit to lace Luka’s boots.”

The pair have stressed the 25-year old is not for sale with Chelsea already seeking alternatives. Levy will meet with Modric’s representatives next week and reports suggest the club are prepared to make the player the highest earner at White Hart Lane.

The Blues have lined up want-away midfielder Samir Nasri as an alternative to Modric. The Arsenal winger only has a year left on his current deal and has rejected two attempts to sign an extension at the Emirates, leaving the club no choice but to cash in on the Frenchman.

The West London club have also been heavily linked with the talented Javier Pastore, but the Palermo maestro has an inflated price tag of £45m which may deter any move for the Argentine. But Modric remains their number 1 target and Villas-Boas will sanction another improved bid if he feels his midfield requires more creativity.
