Introducing Your New Arsenal Captain…..

By on July 18, 2011

It’s been ages since Patrick Vieira scored from the spot kick to give Arsenal the FA Cup in Cardiff City. As bad as it looks, no Arsenal fan can hide from the truth that we have watched our great team in anguish, going six unprofitable years without silverware.  As a realistic fan, I think all this has happened due to the stubbornness of our manager or some might say it’s due to bad luck, that we lost the Carling Cup to a now relegated team, Birmingham City.

Arsenal has been a team without leadership, since the day Thierry Henry left for Barcelona. Let’s not talk about the man, William Gallas, who took over as captain from him, but let’s talk about the man who took over from Mr. Gallas.  Having watched Cesc ever since he was 16, I have never one day, doubted his ability on the field. His style of play,  his great vision, oozes of confidence and it’s a beauty to behold when he has the ball, every touch is classic.  No one can deny his ability, he’s truly a world-class player.  But ever since he took over from Gallas, I was never in support of this decision. I doubted his ability to lead, organize and command a team like Arsenal.

Each time, I think of a leader, a commander in an Arsenal shirt, only one name keeps ringing a bell in my head, no more than the man , who has proved his ability and stability in the heart of our defense, adapting to English football in earnest, despite coming all the way from Holland. Guess who? Yeah, you are right. Thomas Vermaelen. The no- nonsense man should lead our team out next season, he has all the charisma and ingredients to be a great Arsenal captain.  Let us all pray the bad Achilles injury, that rocked him last season, never comes back.

This article is debatable, I am sure some will say no, some want Robin Van Persie, while some  might even say it should be Jack Wilshere. Yes, they are all fantastic players, who did great things for us last season. As for RVP,  he’s been so inconsistent all season, moreover I don’t suggest we use a front man as our captain. He will hardly see what’s going on behind him unlike a defender, who sees everything on the field. Let’s take a look at the top clubs in Europe, they all have a defender as their skipper. For Jack, however, he is just not ready yet. At least not now, maybe in the nearest future. TV5 for captain. I hope it will happen soon.

Thank you for reading.

Vermaelen would be a great captain. He has the passion to lead the team. I know Van the man will get the captaincy if fabregas leaves. He is next in line after all. So the likely hood is that they will be number 1 and 2 next year with van persie getting injured on international duty as per usual(hopefully not of course)that will leave vermaelen the captain with song vice captain. Song has been at the club a long time now and also deserves his chance plus he will be the more regular player. The one thing i would like to say to jack wilshire is to practice shooting and to set a target of 10 goals this season, song aswel. They get loads of opportunities in front of goal and hopefully this year we will see the real tomas Rosicky, the one that we know is there but is just a wee bit scared to come out.I would show him a video of all the goals he has scored in his career and ask him what happened? I think this would have a positive impact on him as he is quality. It would make a big difference at the end of the season.

Sorry but this is a stupid, drawn out post. All you needed to say was that you think Vermaelen should be captain next season. Most people would probably agree with that. Van Persie is the only alternative, but I agree that a front man doesn’t make an ideal captain. “Inconsistent” though? What were you watching? When he was fit, he was a machine. Being injured doesn’t count as inconsistency. As for you saying that some people would call for Wilshere to be captain – what on Earth are you on about? No doubt he’s a captain of the future but no-one in their right mind would suggest he was ready for it yet.
2 last things – Vermaelen is Belgian not Dutch, and I’m sorry but your use of commas is so poor I genuinely had trouble understanding some of the sentences.

I thinks the idea of this post is to share different opinions and not to attack each other the fact that (www.o-posts.net)is heard to be understood by (ONE FAN)in English it doesn’t make him less valuable as an Arsenal fan or a right to express his feeling.
Personal i am not from English speaking county but i try may best to communicate.and i speak 4 languages.
So coming back to the topic of Vermaelen becoming our captain i think is very well spotted it is always better to command the troops from the back line , as Cesc was given responsibily too early.

Where on earth did you get thev idea that TH14 was a good skipper? The great man has plenty of skills and talent, but leadership isn`t one of them, my friend.
PV4, IMO, was our last good captain. Gilly had leadership skills, but was on the decline, when he finally got the arm-band.
I agree about TV being our next skipper.

To me we should not predict earlier who should become the next captain becouse news has it that fabregas may not leave arsenal but nevertheless he had no qualities of leadership via commanding role but who has is vamalean

It’s only at Arsenal FC where the Manager and Board “sign” players using their mouths. Ricardo Alvarez, Radamel Falcao, Romelu Lukaku, Stewart Downing, Gary Cahill, Chris Samba and lately Shay Given. All these stars have been “signed” with words from Ivan Gazidis and/or Arsene Wenger. It happens all the time every summer since 2005. Meanwhile, the gunners’ better players, tired of this “rubish” are looking for trophies away from the Emirates. There can’t be enough adjectives to describe this bunch of “wise men” running Arsenal FC.

TV for captain whether Cesc stays or goes, simple as. RVP No.2, can’t have a striker as captain and we need more balls and accountability defensively. Cesc should never have been captain, too young and not a leader.

sad to say that there are no any choices but Vermalen as the rest are not up to it which unfortunetly only leaves one choice

Can you imagine Walcot as captain or Bentner (who will be sadly missed for his goalscoring prowess)lets face it we do not have a leader and have not since T A the man the club the team.

Interestingly who would be a good vice-captain Song ????????????? Gibbs ??????????? Wilshire???????????

Vermaelen should be made captain he deserve it. Moreover, you don`t give captain to a striker

I think ur forgetting one thing. Fabregas was given the captaincy as incentive to stay. Fab will be sold this summer, and so that Nasri doesnt leave, he will be offered the captaincy. Thats just the way it works im afraid. (hope im wrong)
