It was a pretty disappointing performance for Liverpool FC as they crashed to a 3-0 defeat against Hull City at the KC Stadium.

1. The Flops

Going 2-0 down in the first half is the result of the Liverpool flops failing to impress. Christian Poulsen was unproductive and looked way past his prime, Joe Cole lost the ball on many occasions and he should really be shipped out, his ball control is all over the place. And Alberto Aquilani well, a mediocre game for the Italian, but I still think that his other pre-season performances were solid, much better than today.

2. Doni won’t start season as Number 1

If you read this blog often, you’ll understand that I wasn’t exactly an advocate for buying Doni as I think that Pepe Reina can handle the games and Brad Jones can come in for the cups. I think he lacked command in his area, which resulted to some miscommunications. That being said, neither of the two goals that Hull scored weren’t his fault. Both were really good shots from the edge of the box.

3. Downing and Adam were impressive

Stewart Downing in particular was pretty good this game for Liverpool, and was one of the bright sparks (if many others). He’s just what Liverpool need and he’s the first “out and out” winger Liverpool have brought in since the days of Steve Mcmanaman. I think he’s a quality buy from this run out.

Adam too was impressive and his passing was accurate. Lots of diagonal balls and plays with a Xabi Alonso-esque style and position. I can already see a good partnership in a 4-2-3-1 formation where he sits back with Lucas.

4. Henderson’s gonna need to do some explaining

Let’s be realistic, 16-20 million pounds is a lot of money, even in football now-a-days. Jordan Henderson struggled to make an impact out there. I think KK was going for a ‘Steven Gerrard position’ with Henderson and he was rarely in the game until he dropped back towards the end of the game.

5. Dalglish is going to need to do a lot of work

Well, the fitness isn’t great, the result very bad, King Kenny is going to have a hard time picking his midfield, choosing who’s a flop and who’s not and basically lifting the team following this hard (and harsh) defeat.
