TRANSFER NEWS: Wenger Demand’s Barca Starlet + £25m For Fabregas

By on July 24, 2011

Arsene Wenger seems to have discovered impressive negotiation skills overnight if we are to believe the latest reports coming from the papers.

Barcelona “representatives” had apparently flown in to London, I imagine in dark suits, shady sunglasses and a suitcase filled with cash, to discuss with Arsenal the details of an offer believed to be £33.5 million. However, it is now being reported that Arsene Wenger is “demanding” £25 million as well as Barcelona’s highly rated Spanish midfielder, Thiago Alcântara.

Manchester United had been interested in the 20 year-old Spaniard, and apparently lodged a £15 million bid last month for the youngster. That was before he signed a new deal which keeps him at Camp Nou until 2015, with a new release clause of a massive £81 million.

VOdds

That factor really does seem to cut this rumour short, and add to that what the player himself said when he signed the new contract with the European Champions; “I never thought about leaving. I’ve always wanted to be here,” and you find yourself wondering how on earth Wenger seems to think he can get anywhere with this. After all, isn’t this similar to what happened with Fabregas? Buy a player with a deep affection or “DNA” as some have called it for Barcelona, and they will most likely seek a return in the future. (Even though Thiago was actually born in Italy.)

He had a good European Under 21 Championship, scoring in the final with a 40 yard stunner, and has a whole host of other impressive qualities suited to Arsenal’s style. He has quick and tricky feet, with a clever mind and vision to match, allowing him to set up attacks from very little, and he has the mature ability to know when not to try something too ambitious – doing the simple things well, such as passing and creating.

It is no wonder clubs are interested in him, but I really cannot see Barcelona letting him go. Despite the fact that the competition in the Barcelona midfield is ferocious, and possibly impossible to penetrate for a player like Thiago Alcântara at the moment, the club won’t want to let such a talented youngster leave, especially so soon after agreeing a new deal.

Unless Wenger really is playing extreme hard-ball with Barcelona, and will refuse to sell Fabregas until his demands are met, this is a rumour dead in the water, but I’d like to see what you think. Would you rather see this Fabregas saga over and done with, and rid the midfielder for £35 million, or would you drag it out for a little longer in an audacious attempt to pick up the young Thiago?

Stop being a chump. We all know where he will eventually go, but he is paid enough by Arsenal for the club to dictate whether that is during the contract extension he choose to sign.

I think he is very smart we have all heard how desperate Barca are for Fab and how much he wants to move back. Wenger has them where he wants them and to be honest 35mil is a fair price…

But as a Gooner i am obv going to say get the best deal and this young player is what we need so hang in there and let them sweat or go with out balls in our court for once..!

Thiago has also stated that if cesc joins he will reconsider his.future. thiago mate and martinez were all superb for spain at the.u21s. if we could get all 3 instead of cesc it would be master stroke. then we could offload nasri and have more than enough funds to bring in 2 defenders.

Great thinking from AW …in life hope high…why not if not…if mata becomes the play maker for arsenal in few years to come, and barca start with their crazy DNA we will again demand for 35m plus messi…

Let fab go and collect ur 40mil. Use the money n buy reasonable player who is capable to replace him. Forget about those teenagers.

Forget Alacantara it would have a buy back clause and he wont have the heart…Barca is a club that can hav a hold on players. Get the 40 mil and get hazard is wat i think Arsene wants. I also hav a funny feeling that the top 4 are waiting obn us to move for a player then counter bid. So gd luck Arsene!

There is pretty much no chance of Hazard being able to leave Lille now that Cabaye and Gervinho are gone.

Let’s pretend as if the news are not rumours! I would prefer£25,000 + Thiago. It’s going to be a wise & an excellent deal. Thiago is a great player that can quickly adapt and shine at Arsenal.Such deal will also relief us of the pain of losing Fabrigas. A fantastic deal I supposed! Gunner for life!

I think bringing in this kid would be beneficial for a while. We need decent substitutes as it’s clear our players are prone to injury. Although it is very clear to see that there will only be a repeat of Cesc’s current situation with Thiago in some years time. No doubt that will be good financially but will a player with no real heart for the team be useful anyway?

Exacly why i dont think this will transpire and the transfer of the Fabs,Ronaldos, Tevez etc lets u know the players and agents hold the cards clubs are held to ransom so i do think the Lille exodus may not stop…if WE can let go of Fab they can Haz!

We need the 30+ Million to strengthen the team and if Barcelona doesn’t hurry, we won’t have time to spend it, so Selling Fabregas will be cancelled until next Summer. Barcelon have a deadline to pay, or the deal is off. It’s that simple.

We already hav enough barca youth players, who wants to buy an ‘Alcantara’ shirt or a ‘HAZARD’ shirt??? Come on this is Arsenals Premier League first team we are talking about not the reserves, them boys need inspirational signings not a kid who will be homesick. Barca rate him at 81 mil yet they want to buy Cesc for a measly 25-35mil? and Cesc would play in front of him in team selection???Come on Gooners? Am i the only one that can smell the stuff u scrape off ur shoe?
Arsenes been tracking Hazard for a few years and he is CRE-A-TIVE with a capital C. So Arsene if Cesc REALLY wants to go then take the money paid in full and go get our boy Hazard to play back alongside Gervi(a proven partnership that works from the look of there last seaon!)and lets go get some trophies!!!POW!!!

Great thinking Monsieur Wenger. I’ve always known Prof will come up with a joker. We have Barcarole by the balls. If Cesc contract doesn’t matter to them then that of Thiago should not matter as well. Up Wenger. I pray this is true. Pay £40m or £25m+Thiago. If no cash give an asset. This is a true test of Barca’s respect for Arsenal and Cesc.

Some people saying just let him go. wtf we are letting him go but the barca fools aint meeting meeting our price so whos fault is it. Then you get the barca chiefs moaning about how he wants to be back an’all. So just pay up or shut up!

We should put a deadline to the deal cos they think cos we need the cash we gonna let him go cheap, so barca play the waiting game.

Thiago has signed a new contract with Barca, but as the Catalans will tell you contracts are there to be broken. Must be, after all that is what they are pushing for regarding Cesc.
