TRANSFER NEWS: Striker Says He’s “Interested In Moving To Spurs”

Tottenham are closing in on the signing of Roma’s Mirko Vucinic. The Montenegrin is set to secure a move to North London in the coming days after Spurs fought of interest from Man Utd and Italian giants Juventus.

The 27-year old had been linked with a surprise move to Manchester United earlier this week, but a source close to Tottenham has dismissed the claims. His agent said on Tuesday:

“I met Manchester United,” Lucci told “We spoke about Vucinic, but we didn’t reach an agreement. “United like Vucinic but there’s still a lot of work to do to see Mirko at Old Trafford.”

However, Tottenham have moved quickly to snap up the forward after the club have grown increasingly concerned over their lack of activity this summer.

Roma was originally holding out for £17.5million for the striker but since the signing of Bojan the Italian outfit are keen to make a quick sale for the forward and will accept £15million. A deal for the striker should be wrapped up soon.

“As far as we’re concerned, the Manchester United interest is a red herring,” a Tottenham source told “We’ve been talking to Roma almost daily for the best part of two weeks and have never heard it mentioned that United may want him.

“Vucinic has indicated he is interested in moving to Spurs, his agent is probably trying to squeeze out the best possible contract for his client.”

“Harry is a little concerned by his goalscoring record and reports about his character, but Vucinic is the main target now,” the source added. “Daniel Levy wants to push it through before he goes on holiday next week.”

He is a cracking footballer not really an out an out goalscorer, more in the Rooney/Berbatov mold.

He will score goals for Spurs the reason is scoring record isn’t great is done to the fact that he was often played on the Left Wing, Thierry Henry had to do that at Juventus and when he came England and played down the middle he was excellent.

He is Fast, Strong, Tall, has quick feet, a great shot can head the ball and is a brilliant dribbler so has everything and therefore is a big step up on what we have.

His record for Montenegro is excellent

this is all made up isn’t it? We might be after him, but come on – is Levy really going on holiday when he’s the man that signs players?!

Not quite top rank is he. I suppose realistically we have to accept without CL footie to offer or big money to compensate we have to make do with what we can get and hope Harry can make to boys perform in the Prem only.

Until this deal is done dusted i will not believe a thing, not knowing much about the player its hard to see if his up to the high level we need, looking at our bunch of useless strikers last season this should not be to hard hope he dont need to sat nav to find the goal, does anyone know if he speaks english?

There we go again, that famous Spurs insider rabbit comes out of the hat once more. As far as I’m concerned, this report is cobblers as it’s the same bullshit report of two weeks ago with ManU an Juve thrown in for good measure to beef up the story which is exactly what it is. If Spurs were really interested in this player, he would have been here by now. Harry’s a bit concerned by his goal scoring record my arse. We’ve been linked with every Tom, Dick and Harry(pardon the pun) since it was clear that Spurs needed fresh blood up front and as a result the clowns in the media namely the daily fail and red tops, have been making up all sorts of rubbish. Until someone is introduced as our new striker/s, then and only then will I believe it.

Negredo or Llorente or both would be nice. Possibly a bid for Huntelaar. These 3 players are all realistic signings.

I agree, Llorente should bs our target if we want to compete for top 4

We don’t actually need an absolute monster up front. We just need a striker to score maybe 12-16 goals and suddenly we are a significantly stronger team. But I will not believe this rumor until we sell someone to make room.

I agree we don’t NEED monsters just 2-3 arriviste who can get 15+ goals each (like Keane & Berba did) but surely a monster would be brilliant

if a report says ‘A source close the club…’ the person writing the article is really saying ‘My brain is telling me to make up a story’

Ok, I’ll start by saying anyone who hasn’t seen Vucinic play clearly has no real opinion, I mean no offense by that statement but you cannot rate a player based solely on his record at a club that has played him out of position for the majority of his time spent at the club. When we signed Berbatov in 2006, how many of you knew of or knew how much of an impact he would have on the Premier League and on the Spurs faithful? Hardly any of you is the answer. Vucinic is a very similar player to Berbatov however he has a much higher workrate than that of the “lazy” Bulgarian and CAN play anywhere in the front line whether it be as an out-and-out CF, Second Striker or a Wing-Forward. He’s quick, powerful, good in the air, has a great first touch and good vision when bringing team mates into the play. £15m is a bargain for a player worth double that in today’s transfer market and mark my words, with the creativity in the current Tottenham side, he will shine and become another stand-out performer next season. 20 goals plus. YIDS!!

I would just like to say that I also watch Seria A football. Vucinic is a very good all round forward. Whilst watching the Roma channel on TV yest, their new director of sport was giving an interview and made it seem like a given that Vucinic was going (no mention of where). I have to point out that he is very much a confidence striker a towards the end of last season he seemed to be a little down and couldn’t get a goal for love or money. Having said that, I have seen him be the difference on many occasions.
I personally think that if we get him, together with pav we could have a deadly attacking pair. Both good footballers that can score all types of goals. COYS
