Chelsea Ace – Ancelotti & Players Got It Wrong

John Obi Mikel feels former Chelsea manager Carlo Ancelotti, along with the players, were trying too hard when things went wrong last season.

Chelsea started the season like champions, winning all but one of their opening 10 games and sat clear at the top of the Barclays Premiership.

But come December, and Chelsea’s form spiralled out of control leaving the Blues trailing league leading Manchester United. Chelsea managed to make a surge towards the end of the season and apply pressure to United who were seemingly odds on to win the title.

Despite the end of season form, United still finished nine points clear and Ancelotti was sacked after just two years in charge at the Bridge and Mikel has had his say on things:

“It was horrible to lose the title,” he told the London Evening Standard. “Everyone who follows football knows that we had it in our hands. We began so well, everyone thought we would win the title. I don’t know why we stopped winning.

“Thinking about it, everyone was really tense. I think people were too tense at the club. We worked and worked in training trying to correct our mistakes but perhaps we should have relaxed. Maybe we just tried too hard. We needed to relax and feel comfortable.”
