The XI: Meet Liverpool’s Key Men for Next Season [Part 2]

Here is Part 2 of our series on Liverpool’s likely eleven for next season, you can check out Part 1 here.

CB: Martin Skrtel

If we aren’t going to bring another centerback in this summer transfer window, I am going with Martin Skrtel here. Our no-nonsense Slovakian defender is dominant in the air and knows how to stop the attacker even when he is in the tightest of positions. In my opinion perhaps the least erratic defender in our back 4.

In his time with Liverpool, he has NEVER gotten a red card in the Premier League. I am not trying to suggest that he is a softy, instead I’m trying to imply that Skrtel is good at timing his tackles and that he is a good reader of the game. Agger would be my second choice if either Skrtel of Carragher are to be injured at any time, but Agger in my opinion plays more like a leftback, his physical game is decent, but is defending indeed is pretty erratic, especially what I saw against Valerenga (as a defensive performance) was pretty bad from him.

LB: New Signing

Well, not much to say about this. I just simply think that Aurelio can’t last the distance as our first choice leftback, with his injury problems and all that. Insua and Jack Robinson are both talented, but I think that Insua is still a bit too slow for the English game, the fact that he couldn’t make an impact with Turkey simply suggests he ain’t cut out for the big time.

Jack Robinson is still a bit too young. He’s got lots of time to learn and I foresee him being on this list himself in a year or two. His display against Arsenal was absolutely phenomenal for a youngster with limited first team experience. The fact that he could contain one of the trickiest wingers in the league (Walcott) suggests that he is definitely one for the future.

DCM: Charlie Adam

I am going for a 4-2-3-1 formation here and Adam fits the bill for defensive midfielder. His diagonal balls and his tough tackling made me go for this formation. His passing is absolutely class and I wonder whether he just might displace Aurelio and Steven Gerrard and become our first choice free kick taker. Would stop play well and would also provide us with accurate passing all around the park.

Keep a look out for Part 3 of our series tomorrow…
