Arsene Wenger Has To Be Joking With This Comment…..

As an Arsenal fan, i read a very worrying quote from our beloved manager tonight, and if he honestly believes what’s he said he should step down as Arsenal manager immediately.

Wenger is quoted in German media publication Kicker as saying:

“We currently have four central defenders, and so there is no need for another.”

WHAT?! No need for another defender? I have always been a fan of Arsene and i will put this down to him playing his cards close to his chest as usual. I hope he is putting up a smokescreen to allow him to get on with securing the VITAL signing of a dominant central defender. It is unthinkable that after all that’s happened last season, and every promise he has made during the summer, that he doesn’t bring in a new centre back.

If however, Le Boss honestly feels Arsenal are currently well equipped at the back and he fails to sign reinforcements, i’m afraid he has finally lost the plot and it’s time to say goodbye.

Ready and waiting Arsene…..

He would not say ‘yes’ I am signing a defender then change his mind after 3 disappointing results. Also he has to buy a CB now because our main target, enrique is at liverpool

Perhaps it could be to show in public he’s not after any of the cd.If he really doesn’t sign any established epl cd and the gunners fail challenge, then Arsenal will be better off sacking him.
In truth ,Feb and Nasri have lost faith in his philosophy. It’s attack times one thousand all the time with a high dl,susceptible to a quick counter as Ronaldo and others have shown. It’s many passes too many ,etc. If he does not or is not willing to show change,he could be out before xmas.

wtf! They are quotes taken from last year. Where and when was he supposed to have said this?? This is true media frenzy. Someone could say that Arsene was about to sign a 20 foot Amazonian Python as a centre back, and there would always be a mug to believe it.

lol ivan already said that arsenal are trying to bring in a deffender so i dont belive that

wenger never talks about transfers up front
if he did then everyone will do what bolton done with garry cahill

evryione knows arsenal are trying to buy a diffrent and they will try and get as much cash as they can due to us being despret for a diffrender.

The quote may actually be genuine. The problem is, Wenger has a rather long list of players from the reserves who have recently become, or are going to be, available. Having 4 centre-halfs in the 1st team squad, he’s reluctant to sign another, bearing in mind that he would then have to sell one to make room for Bartley or Miquel – or both. It is logical, but I’d agree that it might turn out to be a gamble. On the other hand, Wenger prepared this squad for the season, he should know best just how fit his players are for the season. If he foresaw imminent problems, he would have acted. It’s not wishful thinking, so far he’s plugged all the gaps in the squad in time.

zdzis – “bearing in mind that he would then have to sell one to make room for Bartley or Miquel – or both. It is logical,”
It is “logical” ? We need quality EXPERIENCED defenders, and you think promoting raw inexperienced kids is “logical” ? Well to Wenger of course, it would be.He’d save on transfer fees, and it would look great on the balance sheet. That’s what matters, doesn’t it ? Bartley, Miquel e.t.c. are talents for the future, not the PRESENT.

Oh, oh, jumping into conclusions, are we? Ever heard of the science called logic? It qualifies which statements are coherent and which not. Do you want to tell me his statement isn’t coherent or what? All I can say is that you’ve missed out on a hell of a lot of education.
If you want to know my opinion (I know you don’t, it would take a bit more brain to suddenly become inquisitive), Wenger should buy another player, but I’m not sure he should really rely on the EPL to furnish him with the right name. Squillaci is unreliable, granted, but the new name will also be primarily a bench-warmer (unless you want him to go into the 1st XI from the off, but that could mean heavy losses in the first few games and possibly a disruption of the current players). So, you can’t actually think of an experienced and talented player, you can only balance between the two virtues and try to get someone with relatively much skill and relatively much experience. That’s what’s expected from bench-warmers, right? To be able to settle in right off, but not to better their superiors. At the same time, a new signing would obviously get a long-term contract. That means Arsenal would have 5 centre-backs in the squad, excluding young players from the reserves (Chelsea now has 6, including one 18-year old and one 22-year old, ManU have 5 with Smalling, Evans and Jones, Man City have 6 with Boyata [?], Savić and the expelled Toure [available come September]). I don’t think it’s necessary for the club to maintain higher levels of spending just for the sake of the improbable situation in which more than one player would get sidelined for a longer period (several months or more). Unless you gamble on your defenders getting all their legs broken come September, there’s no logic in inflating your expenses. And if you expect to add young talent to the squad, it makes even less sense to inflate it now. As far as I know, Bartley and Miquel are rather highly valued young players. If Miquel stays put for the season, it could mean he’ll be the “new defensive signing” Wenger meant earlier on. I guess he would make a rather nice 5th choice, wouldn’t he?
And that’s all there is to it, really. Whether Wenger will actually bring in another player or not, only time will tell.

When did enrique become our main target? q to an earlier poster. criley enrique at his very best is as good as gibbs on a bad day. the only advantage he has over our current left backs is his injury record and in the case of traore he wont be at the acn. wenger now knows that 4 centre backs is not enough. last season we used 5 plus song a couple of times. he has already come out and said we need another defender. that is without selling eboue and hopefully squillaci. if he can get rid of those 2 then we should have room for 3 defenders. my 3 would be vertonghen dann and mertesacker. if we bought them all we would not need anymore full backs or another dm. as the current centre backs could provide cover to those positions. for me that is 30m well spent spend another 35 on benzema and taarabt then nasri would stay if he dont sell him and bring in hazard or mata. simple this managing lark.

Clown Shoes – I think the word you’re looking for is “neanderthal”, not “nomad”. You were saying about intelligence?
Oh yes, the type of intelligence that was prepared to let Nasri go for nothing next year, instead of selling him, and using the money to buy a player we really need, like Cahill. And this from a person who says we can’t “afford” to compete with the other clubs financially.

Easy Tiger, if you believe this quote you should also believe the world is flat and the moon is made out of cheese.

By all reliable accounts, Scott Dann looks the most likely arrival in the immediate future and personally I rate the guy – Brum fell apart when he picked up his injury last season.

Young, hungry, English, talented, old school no-nonsense center half – exactly what we need…

wenger has more belief than his peirs.
he will continue to believe in his players.personally i have influenced many persons to become a success all because of the universal principle of unselfish belief.many will not understand this principle because they are too narrow, too narrow make themselves availiable to this truth.

I think you’re going to have to get a new sense of humour to match your ‘FAB4’ moniker.

I think you’ll find this quote came from some considerable time ago.

He and Gazidis are working themselves into old age trying to find at least one other central defender.

philbet, with all due respect, everyone knows the AKBs are full of shyte, and can only be paid to write their nonsense. True fans only want what’s best for the club, AKBs want to see the continuation of a failed policy.

        August 12, 2011 at 4:50 pm

Sorry, Pete, but I just can’t get myself to treat anyone who signs his posts “In Arsene we rust” seriously. It’s an ideological gesture, and it’s the equivalent of being full of sh*t.
Another thing – you really think “AKBs” get paid for posting? That’s a curious idea… You know there’s a difference between doing something AS IF you were paid for it and actually being paid, right?

If he brings in a defender, he will have to sell somebody. Obvioulsy Squillaci. Then we will have Koscielny, Djourhou, Vermalen, New Guy, Miquel and Bartly and Song.

We are not that different from Man You. they have Vidic, Rio, Smalling, Jones and all the other guys.

So if he said it then it makes sense to me. I don’t think we are losing games because of the bodies we have, but i think its the organisation, our midfield and the attack thats to blame. I think this coming season we will be stronger with the addition of Gervinho and Miayichi.

Wenger is always a man of inconsistence. A man that seats on the bench and watch his players plays not according to instruction but according to their usual way of making the fans feels dejected. Why on earth would wenger made such a quote when it is obvious that we need not just a defender but two to three. Wenger is heading to disaster honestly.
