Wenger: Champions League Helps Arsenal Attract “Big Players”

Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger admits it’s easier to find players now that they have secured a Champions League place.

The Gunners fought back to beat Udinese 3-1 in the Champions League play-off round. The victory means Arsenal will bank at least another £20million which was imperative to their season’s campaign.

Wenger is short in the middle of the park especially after the departures of Samir Nasri and Cesc Fabregas, and he was asked if it’s easier to find a better calibre of player after Wednesday nights victory, Wenger told Sky Sports:

“Yes, of course. We want to play at the top and all of the big players want to play at the top.

“It is a little bit easier, but it is not easy to find players of the calibre that we have lost.

“I believe that we have top players still coming through our club, and we have shown that again tonight.”

Asked if he was expecting to add before the 31st August deadline, he added:

“I expect to, of course, but at the moment I am very happy if we get (Abou) Diaby back in midfield and a few others that are out.

“We have too many players missing, but you will see that we have a very good squad.”
