Hansen: Arsenal Players No Longer Believe In Wenger

Liverpool legend Alan Hansen feels Arsenal players are losing faith in Arsene Wenger.

Liverpool legend Alan Hansen feels Arsenal players are losing faith in Arsene Wenger, after their humiliating 8-2 defeat to Manchester United.

He wrote in the Telegraph: “It was a culmination of the last 18 months of Arsène Wenger’s reign. It was testament to his total failure to address his side’s glaring flaws. It was eight, but might have been 18. It was total and utter mayhem.

“Before the game, simply from glancing at the team-sheet, it was hard to see how Arsenal could win. The gulf between the two sides – best illustrated by the strength of the respective benches – was too deep, too obvious.

“Arsenal had players missing, but Wenger has known for years he has to recruit to possess the necessary strength in depth to compete with Sir Alex Ferguson’s side. He has known, as we all have, that Arsenal lack leadership and cover for the back four. For too long he has failed to rectify any of those shortcomings for too long. This is the consequence.

“During the game, as Arsenal were cut open time and again, it was clear the Frenchman’s players no longer believe in his project.

“Cesc Fàbregas has gone and Samir Nasri has gone – their best player and arguably their brightest – and now there is a sense that plenty of their former team-mates have lost direction and faith.”
