Arsenal looking at ‘New Vieira’

Steven Nzonzi

By Football Talk.

Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger is weighing up a summer move to sign Blackburn midfielder Steven NZonzi after his chief scout gave a glowing report on the player dubbed the ‘New Vieira’.

Steve Rowley was present at Blackburns 1-1 draw with Wolves at Molineux and left impressed with N’Zonzi’s display at the heart of Sam Allardyce’s side. The 21-year old Frenchman has been virtually ever-present in the defensive role at Blackburn this season, and his premiership experience is of great importance to Wenger.

Arsene Wenger is keen to add a physical presence into Arsenal’s midfield and at 6ft 3″ N’Zonzi certainly has the physique the Gunner’s boss is looking for. Predictably N’Zonzi has drawn comparisons with former Arsenal captain Patrick Vieira, but that’s where the similarities stop as he has a long way to go before he surpasses the achievements of his fellow countryman.

Rowley was also impressed by 18-year old Blackburn midfielder Phil Jones, who has broken into the Rovers team lately with some solid displays.

Talented as both Jones and N’Zonzi may be, I’m sure these are not the high-profile signings Arsenal fans are hoping for this summer. Surely Wenger will choose to go for experience over raw potential after the clubs 5th year without a trophy? Only time will tell.

What do Arsenal fans think of these rumours, would you like to see either of these young Blackburn stars join the Gunners? Please leave your comments below…
