Another poor display by an Arsenal ‘goalkeeper’ this weekend has once again highlighted the need for manager Arsene Wenger to dip into the transfer market and sign a new No1, and it i think i have the man for the job.

Gianluigi Buffon – no he’s not an unknown youngster, he’s a household name with a ready-made reputation. Buffon is 32 years old so has plenty of experience, is captain material and won almost everything in the game including a World Cup, is one of the best in the business and has said he would like to play in England if he leaves Juventus this summer. He is exactly what we need. Arsenal are the only side in the top 8 who need a goalkeeper, so if he does leave Juventus let’s make sure we at least make an attempt to sign him.

It may turn out that we can’t afford his transfer fee, after all the world’s most expensive keeper wont come cheap, he left Parma for Juve in 2001 for £32m, or Buffon’s wages may be a problem for Arsenal’s strict wage structure, but please Arsene at least try and buy him. Don’t hang about until Man city decide they want three top keepers for next year, give Juventus a call the minute the window opens and see what the situation is.

Buffon was once regarded at the best in the world and is no doubt a class above anything we currently have at the club. He has expressed his disappointment at how things have gone for his current club of late and says the Premiership would be his preferred destination if he parted company with the Old Lady.

Buffon said: “If I had to leave, I think England would be my destination.

“My desire to leave Juve is equal to that of Juve’s will to have me leave.

“At this time there is nothing [to discuss] but there are two weeks to go [before the end of the season] and anything can happen.

“Juve always has the priority and we will see if we will decide for our paths to continue together.”

Buffon would have won Arsenal at least 8-10 points this season, although i think i could have gained us at least 2-3 myself if i was in goal, but world class goalkeepers don’t come around all that often so if he is for sale this summer….go for it boss. You know you want to!

Would Arsenal fans like to see Buffon at the Emirates next year? Leave your opinions below…
