Redknapp: I Tried To Sign £17m Man Utd Star

By on October 9, 2011

Harry Redknapp had admitted he tried to sign Manchester United star Ashley Young, but wasn’t too disappointed to miss out as he already has Gareth Bale at his disposal.

The former Aston Villa man moved to Old Trafford in the summer for £17m and has been a revelation so far in him United career. But prior to his move to Villa Park the Spurs boss admits he wanted to sign the winger and bring him to White Hart Lane.

Redknapp believes he was right to pursue Young, who was again excellent for England in their 2-2 draw with Montenegro on Friday night scoring one and setting up the other, but despite missing out on the Three Lions star Redknapp jokily admits he has an adequate replacement in Gareth Bale. He told The Sun:

“Ashley Young is a good player, so exciting. I tried to sign him a couple of years ago for Tottenham and last night confirmed I was right doing so. It just so happens we have a bloke called Gareth Bale in that position now who isn’t too shabby.”
