Sol Campbell has confirmed that Arsenal have offered him a one-year contract, but he has yet to sign that deal amid reports Celtic are interested in the 35-year-old centre-half. It has been widely reported today that Celtic would offer Campbell a 2-year contract, and although Sol has always maintained he wants to stay on at the Emirates next season he is yet to sign the one-year contract being offered from the Gunners.

“I worked very hard to get back to my best and to play in the Champions League again and I would love the opportunity to continue at Arsenal,’” Campbell told ESPN Soccernet.

“Although a one-year contract has been offered, these things take some time to thrash out. I am in no rush, I would like to stay with Arsenal if I could, however, Celtic are a massive club, a great club, with massive support.”

I hope Campbell does stay on for another year and i fully expect him to do so. He made a massive impact during the second half of the season and looking back at the injuries we sustained in the latter stages of the season i don’t know how we would have coped had we not signed him in January. His experience is invaluable for players like Clichy, Djourou and even Vermaelen to learn from so let’s get the deal done and tie him up for another year. I can understand Campbell being tempted by a longer deal from Celtic and they are a massive club, but the Scottish league is pretty pathetic really as shown by the fact even Robbie Keane managed to score nearly a goal a game up there!
