TRANSFER NEWS: Fergie Battles AVB For £20m Wonderkid

Ajax starlet Christian Eriksen has emerged as a top priority for Manchester United boss Sir Alex Ferguson, who is set to go head-to-head with Andre Villas-Boas for the player.

Recent reports claim the Ajax midfield sensation has topped Ferguson’s wish list this January, but the Scot will have to fight off interest from Manchester City, Barcelona and Chelsea who are all keen to land the gifted youngster.

It is believed that the 19-year old will fetch for fee around £20 million, and it was thought that Chelsea boss Andre Villas-Boas had sounded out the youngster as a priority signing. But Fergie and AVB were both dealt a blow when Eriksen himself declared that a move to Barcelona was his preference.

A source in Scandinavia confirmed United were tracking him, and also revealed that Chelsea and Spurs turned down the player several years ago due to him small frame:

“United are hot on him. Trust me, they want him and £20m is the price being bandied around.

“Yet ironically both Chelsea and Spurs turned him down several years ago because they thought he was too small.

“He has since turned into a world-class player.”
