Wenger Turns Down £10m Striker Move

Arsene Wenger has turned down the chance to talk with the French club Bordeaux over a possible transfer of his 27 year-old striker Marouane Chamakh this January.

The player himself has also apparently ignored contact from his former clubs President, Jean-Louis Triad, who left several messages on Chamakh’s phone in the last two months but received no reply. He said:

“I have left four or five messages on Chamakh’s number in the last two months. I’ve also left messages on Wenger’s mobile, but I have had no response.”

“I wanted to know the position of Marouane. If he is happy at Arsenal, and if he would be interested in a return to Bordeaux. From what I heard in the press, he said could return to France. If that was his choice, I wanted to tell him that there was no problem and that we could talk about it.”

“But his silence proves beyond doubt that he still hopes to succeed at Arsenal.”

The Moroccan international has been played sparingly by Arsene Wenger this season, mainly due to the sensational goalscoring form that Robin van Persie has discovered. Chamakh played a decent total of 44 games for Arsenal last year, scoring 11 goals and assisting 8.

So far this season, he has played only a few games and it is thought that he may want out of Arsenal because of his lack of success and game time, with a £10m price tag reported in the media. However, considering Triad’s comments on his unsuccessful contact with the striker, either he has the wrong phone number or Chamakh wants to stay in London.
