Spurs set to seal striker deal
By David Moore-Crouch.
Eidur Gudjohnsen is set to make his move to Tottenham a permanent one. According to Sky Sports, the Monaco striker will sign for the club within the next 14 days. Gudjohnsen joined the club in the January transfer window and helped Spurs push for Champions League Qualification. Although he only scored twice in his four months at the club, Harry Redknapp believes the 31 year old showed enough to warrant a new deal.
Gudjohnsen is no stranger to the Premier League, having played 177 games for Spurs London rivals Chelsea. During this time, he managed to net 78 goals. The Icelandic international also possesses vast Champions League experience which could prove significant for Spurs as they enter Europe’s premier competition for the first time in their history.
Gudjohnsen has previously expressed his desire to remain at White Hart Lane.
I’m very pleased with the way things have gone here in the last few weeks. I’ve had to be patient but I’ve thoroughly enjoyed my training and being here on a day to day basis. I really feel alive again. I missed England.
With Gudjohnsen set to remain at Spurs, Robbie Keane’s future is once again being brought into question. There are a number of clubs that are rumoured to be interested in signing the Irish veteran if Spurs do decide he is surplus to requirements.
