Wenger to sign defender “before the end of the World Cup”

BRITAIN SOCCER PREMIER LEAGUE

By Fab4.

Arsene Wenger has declared today that despite Arsenal being ‘quiet’ in the transfer market, he will complete a signing ‘before the end of the World Cup’, most likely a defender. Wenger is currently out in South Africa working for French TV, but is also working behind the scenes on improving his defensive options for next season and told Arsenal.com that a signing will be tied-up before July 11th when the curtain falls on the World Cup.

“No, we are not close at the moment,” said Wenger. “We are quiet. But there will be something happening before the end of the World Cup – certainly on the defensive side.” Wenger told Arsenal.com

Who the new player will be is anyone’s guess. Arsenal have been strongly linked with a move for relatively unknown French centre-back Laurent Koscielny, with an improved offer of £8.3m on the table. Koscienly has also expressed his desire to join the Gunners and with Arsene’s track record of buying unknowns, this one looks the most likely to be completed. Also, if Arsene wants the signing completed before the World Cup ends, its safe to assume the player won’t be representing his country in South Africa.
