Transfer News: Hazard Saga Finally Nearing An End?

Chelsea have stepped up their interest in Lille winger Eden Hazard, according to the Daily Mail, after Real Madrid also increased their interest in the player

Chelsea are edging closer to sealing a deal for Lille winger Eden Hazard, according to the Daily Mail.

With little over two weeks remaining in the January transfer window it seems Andre Villas-Boas is keen to strengthen his squad further after finally completing a deal for Gary Cahill yesterday.

The Daily Mail reported over the weekend that Hazard’s own agent was expecting the Blues to submit a bid of around £25m for the player, and now they claim that sources at Lille think the 21-year-old has already discussed personal terms with Chelsea.

Sportsmail understands that Andre Villas-Boas has been forced to act quickly to try and secure a deal after Real Madrid stepped up their interest in the player, with Hazard previously declaring his preference for a move to the Bernbeau.

Hazard is one of Europe’s most highly-rated youngsters with Premier League big-guns Arsenal, Man Utd, Man City, Liverpool and Tottenham all previously linked with the playmaker, so if Chelsea could land him it would be a major coup.

With so many reported suitors, it’s hard to see Chelsea being able to snap him up without a fight. I expect this protracted transfer saga to continue for a little while yet….possibly even until the summer.

    dont think its such a coup if chelsea sign him.the other clubs mentioned are also rans in the financial race.

      It would be. Chelsea are also rans when u look at their history. what have they won 2 leagues and no european cups. Joke club, a mafia crooks plaything. they wont even be in the champions league next year. wasting 100s of millions on mega flops like Torres, Luiz, Lukuku, meirles, and players who once were good are finished lampard, drogba, terry, cech, anelka (1st of many to be dumped)essien, kalou. all old men. this club is a joke, no forward planning, just throw money at it is always the answer (shevchenko 30mil flop, veron 30mil flop, crespo 30mil flop, Mutu druggie flop). Only mercenaries join chelski.

    Chelsea are looking to secure the services of Hazard; a real quality player, and Dalglish – who in my view is clearly holding Liverpool back – is looking to sign a Chelsea reject by the name of Sinclair. Real progress at Anfield.

      im a Liverpool fan and i fully agree mate….. we are constantly linked with players from lower sides and even lower leagues: eg Rory Donnelly, formerly of Cliftonville, Irish League…… its frustrating as fuck, his transfer targets and summer buys of last year, bar Jose Enrique, have been piss poor..

          yes exactly what’s wrong with arsenal & liverpool?
          as if they lost their wits when they are about buying players , wenger when to buy one player already thinks in his mind his players are already better, while daglish seems to want people that are very local, near liverpool, or PL not foreignt players;

    Next big player, will be viewed amongst the best in the near future. He is exactly the player liverpool need, i know liverpool aren’t as attractive a club now, but in my opinion the should sign moussa sow, who has stated he wants to move to liverpool this month, and do whatever it takes to land hazard, they have developed a frightening partnership at lille and im hoping that if sow comes to anfield that might influence hazard to follow suit. We need those two in this window, if we leave it until the summer we wont be in champions league and top class players wont come anyway, at least in january we can offer a realistic chance of cl next season.

    I find this very hard to believe. No other clubs bidding for him just does not look right. Secondly, he stated his desire to play for Lille till the end of the season. Lastly, Chelsea going behind Liverpool’s back to sign him is totally impossible, Liverpool still has first refusal.

      January 17, 2012 at 11:56 am

      I think you’re kidding yourself if you think Liverpool have first refusal. I’m an Arsenal fan and I know he won’t be going to Arsenal or Liverpool because neither team will be playing Champions League football for the next few years. I also don’t think he’ll sign for Chelsea now because they are far from guaranteed CL football next season. Real Madrid have to be favourites.

        real madrid will win nothing locally or in europe due to barcelona;
        how can you be happy at real madrid knowing barcelona wil beat you any time, and tyou are bund to meet them at least 4 times a year!! i think this is serious, it slowly killing mourinho, ronaldo (he never plays well against barcelona) .. they are never realy happy 😉 so i think hazard understood this!

      Why is it that anytime a good player is on the radar of all big teams, some arsenal fans always claim that arsene wenger found him first? Hazard has been in the news for long, long before,wenger could imagine signing him.

    I think dalglish is not the right man for Liverpool. Its very shameful to see liverpool linking with all the best players and then drop every idea to buy the players.why Liverpool did not buy Cahill for that price.Why Liverpool cannot buy Hazard,Jelavic, shame. I was, I am, I will remain a Liverpool fans whatever happen. BUTTT hats off to AVB and FERGUSON in recruiting best players.

    hazard to chelsea is a good deal. manchester city wont be able to put him in the line up becasue of their big sqaud. united have too many wingers. arsenal and liverpool cant really qualify for champions league footy which is what hazard wants to play. spurs dont have the funds and madrid have the samae problem as city

    I hate to say it, but Spurs is the best logical move for someone like Hazard. Imagine Bale and Hazard hitting you from either flank in tandem. If he made the move to Spurs now, I’d put money on them winning the title. They’re financially sound, void of bad politics and all round on the up. And despite having only spent 5m essentially, they are the team of the season so far, forget Man City. BTW I’m a Liverpool fan and know he isn’t Anfield bound. Chelsea would be a stupid move too. AND Dalglish is the right man. 1 year, after 2 years of absolute devastation, a young and fresh squad still in the rebuilding stages. The best defence and undefeated at home. All we need is a goal scorer, some more time to gel and some luck.
