Chelsea and Man Utd played out a thrilling 3-3 draw at Stamford Bridge on Sunday after the blues threw away a 3-goal lead, here are player ratings for both sides

Chelsea and Manchester United played out a thrilling 3-3 draw at Stamford Bridge on Sunday to maintain this seasons trend of open and exciting games between the top sides.

The home side raced in to a 3-0 lead through goals from Evans (OG), Mata and Luiz only for United to come storming back with Rooney scoring two penalties and sub Hernandez heading home the equaliser.  Here are our player ratings from the game.

Chelsea Player Ratings

Petr Cech 7

Made a couple of good saves in the first half and could do nothing about Rooney’s superb penalties. However, Cech may feel he should have done better with the Hernandez header after getting a good hand to it.

Branislav Ivanovic 6.5

Proved he is far more solid at right back than Bosingwa but does lack a little in the final third. Unlucky to give away a penalty and overall a decent display from the Serbian.

Gary Cahill 6

Could have made a nightmare start to his Blues career had Howard Webb pulled him up for an early foul on Welbeck. Cahill looked vulnerable next to Luiz at the back on his debut.

David Luiz 6.5

His deflected header put Chelsea 3-0 up but the Brazilian still showed his inefficiencies at the back, and stood like a statue as Hernandez was left free to head home United’s third.

Jose Bosingwa 5

Beaten by Valencia on several occasions and proved he’s no left back solution for Andre Villas-Boas.

Michael Essien 6.5

Solid in the middle for Chelsea and went close with a thunderous second half drive. Faded a little as the game went on but that’s to be expected after so long out.

Raul Merieles 6

Created little and should have done better with a header late on. Didn’t really stamp his authority on the game.

Florent Malouda 5

Saw little of the ball and did little with it when he did have the ball at his feet. Poor show from the Frenchman.

Daniel Sturridge 7

Great work to create the opener and was the home sides most dangerous player going forward for much of the game. Sturridge did give away the first penalty though after bringing down Evra and was subbed shortly after.

Juan Mata 8.5

Stunning volley put Chelsea 2-0 up and the Spaniard also provided the cross for the third. Nearly won it in the last minute with a free kick. Great display.

Fernando Torres 6

Great cross for Mata’s goal and worked hard trying to make things happen. Fluffed his chance to put the game beyond United at 3-2 though, failing to shoot when given the chance in the area.

Subs

Oriol Romeu 5

On for Sturridge with the score at 3-2 but this defensive move only invited more pressure from United.

Man Utd Player Ratings

David de Gea 7

Stunning last minute save from the Spaniard denied Mata. He looked nervous early on but settled in to the game.

Rafael 5.5

Given a tough time by Mata and left the Spaniard free to put Chelsea 2-0 up. Didn’t get forward as much as usual and subbed during the second half.

Jonny Evans 6

Poor positioning lead to his own goal and Chelsea’s opener, but a decent display after that.

Rio Ferdinand 6.5

Should have done better with the Luiz header, as Rio turned his back on play and the ball deflected off him into the net. Dealt with the boo-boys well though.

Patrice Evra 6.5

Gave Torres too much room to cross for Mata and was too easily beaten by Sturridge for the opener. However, won United’s first penalty and got forward to support in attack at any opportunity.

Michael Carrick 7

Decent performance from Carrick. Pinged a few nice passes about but mostly just kept things ticking over in midfield.

Ryan Giggs 7.5

Great cross for Hernandez to level late on and was dictating play from the middle of the park in the first half.

Antonio Valencia 7

A constant problem for Bosingwa in the first half with some powerful runs. Moved to right back during the second half as Fergie went for it.

Ashley Young 6

Back in action after a long lay-off and went close to scoring in the first half only to be denied by Cech. Tired quickly though and was subbed.

Wayne Rooney 9  (MOTM)

Constant threat, dropping off to collect the ball and cause problems for Chelsea. Two superb penalties got United back in the game. Great all round performance.

Danny Welbeck 6.5

Controversial ‘dive’ won United’s second penalty but otherwise a relatively quiet game from Danny. Moved out wide when Hernandez came on.

Subs

Javier Hernandez 7.5

Movement and pace caused the Blues all sorts of problems and got the equaliser. Super-sub.

Paul Scholes 6.5

Saw a lot of the ball during his half hour on the pitch, and as usual made things happen.

Ji-Sung Park N/A

Not enough time to affect the game.
