Guillem Balague has told Sky Sports News this evening that Real Madrid and Barcelona are not currently interested in signing Arsenal striker Robin van Persie.

Van Persie will enter the final year of his contract in June and ESPN were one of several news outlets to run a story last week claiming the Dutchman could be interested in joining Madrid, a story that the player soon denied (source: Sky Sports).

However, Spanish corespondent Balague, who is a regular pundit on Sky Sports, reported tonight that neither Real or Barcelona are interested in signing the 28-year-old but that situation could change in the coming months.

Balague claims that Van Persie did tell Spanish press ‘why not?’ when asked about Real Madrid, and he also suggests his asking price would be just £25m, a figure which could tempt one of the Spanish giants to make their move. Here is what he told Sky Sports:

“He did say to the Spanish press ‘Real Madrid – why not?’

“I’m hearing that actually he is not particularly bothered about going to Real Madrid. Barcelona would be a different story but Barcelona don’t want him at this stage.

“But we will see. He only has one year left on his contract, he will cost £25m which may just interest Barcelona and Real Madrid to the point that they want him. But at the moment neither want him.”

£25m? I’m sure Barca, Real, and every other team in the world would want a player of Van Persie’s calibre for just £25m! Sorry Balague, i’m not sure where your getting your information from, but I can safely say van Persie will cost more than that if he is made available this summer.
