Russian outfit Zenit St Petersburg have made a late bid to sign Arsenal midfielder Andrey Arshavin on loan for the rest of the season, according to Sky Sports News.

Arshavin has fallen out of favour at Arsenal this season and now finds himself behind the likes of Gervinho and youngster Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain in the first team pecking order.

Now Sky Sports report that Zenit director Maxim Mitrofanov has claimed they have made an offer to Arsenal to take Arshavin on loan for the rest of the season, claiming the move would help the player prepare for the upcoming European Championships. Here’s what Mitrofanov is quoted as saying:

“Arshavin would interest us in terms of having him on loan,”

“[Besides helping Zenit] Andrey would also be well prepared for the upcoming Euro 2012 finals. The question is what Arsenal really want, would they want a loan deal?”

“We had [initial] talks with them. Let’s see how they respond now.” Zenit general director Maxim Mitrofanov was quoted as saying on Sky Sports News

The transfer window doesn’t shut until Friday night in Russia, so they still have a couple of days to get this deal done. Arshavin joined the Gunners from Zenit and is still loved by his former club, so a move back to his homeland looks likely. It’s just wether Arsene Wenger is willing to let him leave now or at the end of the season.

It’s been a fall from grace for the 30-year-old, who was once regarded as one of the worlds best but now finds himself turning out for the Arsenal reserve team! But i can’t see this move happening now, i think he’ll be here till the summer.
