Suarez - Possible Arsenal target?
Guest post submitted by o-posts.net:
With sources such as the Daily Mail claiming Arsene Wenger will have around £55 million to spend this summer on re-constructing his squad, we look at three players he should target. A word of warning though, don’t expect to see a dream team. We’re going for realistic targets here.
Christian Eriksen
Age: 20
Position: Attacking Midfielder
Nationality: Danish
Current Club: Ajax
A player that I think Arsenal should pursue the most is Danish youngster Christian Eriksen. Plying his trade at Ajax, Eriksen operates in the attacking midfield area and can play centrally or on the wings. His vision, short and long range passing abilities, technical ability and skills enable him to be the perfect candidate to replace Samir Nasri or Cesc Fabregas.
Although still relatively young at 20-years-old, Eriksen played 28 games on the way to winning the Eredivisie in 2010-11 and 4 cup games as he won the KNVB cup in 2009-10, so he has plenty of experience for one so young. His style would ensure he fits seamlessly in to the Arsenal squad quickly.
Granit Xhaka
Age: 19
Position: Central Midfielder
Nationality: Swiss
Current Club: Basel
A fully fit Arsenal would have Wilshere, Arteta, Rosicky, Song, Diaby and Ramsey all competing for the midfield positions but we think we could do with one more in there as many of those players have had their fair share of injury problems. Xhaka is an all-round midfielder with good passing ability and at 6ft tall, he can be an imposing presence.
At 19-years-old he is another youngster but having played over 70 games for Basel, broken into the Swiss national team and played in the Champions League, he has a lot of experience already.
Matías Suárez
Age: 23
Position: Forward
Nationality: Argentine
Current Club: Anderlecht
Up front is certainly a position that Arsenal need to strengthen, and Matias Suarez could be the answer. Van Persie has hardly had a chance to rest this season and his only back up is in the form of Park and Chamakh, neither of which have proven they are capable to stepping in when required.
Suarez, who plies his trade at Anderlecht, is good with both feet and has managed 16 goals and 11 assists so far this season in 27 games. Suarez can also play on the wings providing extra support for Van Persie and at the age of 23 could develop to become the main striker in the future.
So these are the three players i’d like to see Arsene go for this summer with his ‘war chest’. They are all attainable and should be within our budget both in terms of transfer fees and wages.
Who would you like to see Arsenal sign?

Wih a title like this, you may as well have recaptioned it “Three Players Arsenal will never buy”. In my experience over the last few years, we have never bought any player who is popularly known to be under our rader, apart from kids . This is usually because some not so briight spark from another club is always ready to offer a couple of million more. We have had to operate like thieves at night, this way, poachers are kept away.

Who else was interested in Merasacker? Nasri was young. Ashavin by his own admission could not get his dream move! Gavinio … was there a bidding war? Arteta, we got at the 11th hour at night.

Merasacker is one of Germanys No. 1 Centre backs, Nasri yes was young at 20 but mature and he didnt take long to settle in, Arshavin did want to come to Arsenal, Gervinho, no there wasnt a bidding war but his talents were known as one of the top GS in france and arteta AW had wanted the last two Transfer windows so what if it was last min.
you said he only buys youngsters well if you take his last 10 transfers look at the age. Mert, Arsh, Bena, Artet, Gerv, Santos, verm, Kosc, Squil, Park and Cham soorry that was 11. the only youngsters he has bought are Ramsay Chamerlain and Jenkson so i dont really see your argument and it is floored and media ran.
two words Torres or Hernandes ??

Enough of this! My worry was that whenever we went in for a player whom other clubs later became interested in, we always seemed to lose out. I never implied that we only signed kids, If I gave you that impression please accept my apologies. Perhaps if you read my original contribution it might become clearer.

yeh that sure is the case, i think its because teams now will see that a large club like Arsenal are interested in there player the price suddenly gets boosted up same with salaries. we need to thank the likes of MC and Chelsea for this. but this is also the reason i believe that if your playing for Arsenal you want to play there. which is a rare nice feeling transfer wise haha

Eriksen doesn’t play on the wing. He is a talented young man, though.

Hazard and Podolski are a MUST I feel. However a 3rd candidate could be either Vertonghen, Gotze, Mvilla or Giroud. I do agree that we need a new keeper that can challenge Szczęsny afterall he’s a fantastic keeper and oozes confidence, hopefully he’ll even be a future Arsenal legend, however Flamini, Mannone and Almunia are not strong enough to compete for Szczęsny’s position.

what a terrible Article, none of these players should even be considered until we get rid of Squilacci and Johan and bring in a new CB and GK.
we have 1 good GK in my opinion so a good cover would be nice
we have 3 great CB but we need 4 to have cover.
we have 4 fullbacks 2RB and 2LB’s
5 DM+CM and 2 AM so 7 who play in the middle of the park
3 wingers now we no longer have Andrei
and 2 ST
why are we talking about 2 youngsters in positions we have more then enough cover and one un tested ST.
so i say again please trim the fat and bring in a CB!! and GK
