[Player Ratings] Liverpool 1-2 Arsenal: How The Players Rated….

Arsenal came from 1-0 down to beat Liverpool 2-1 at Anfield thanks to a double from star striker Robin van Persie. Here are our player ratings from the game.

To any Liverpool fans reading this, i’m an Arsenal fan and write about Arsenal here on Football Talk so make no apologies for my biased views!

Lets be honest, Liverpool were by far the better side today and dominated the game for long periods. But Arsenal held firm, rode their luck and snatched all three points with a late winner from Robin van Persie.

The Gunners were a far cry from the side that demolished Spurs last week. We were well below par and could hardly string two passes together in the first half. Liverpool deserved their lead but with RVP in the side, we always have a chance. His winning goal was top drawer, but credit should also go to Song for the pass. Superb.

This is a huge win and combined with Chelsea losing to West Brom this afternoon, leaves Arsenal three points clear in fourth and now only four points off the Spuds in third. It also leaves Liverpool ten points behind us, so Champions League football looks highly unlikely for them next season.

Here are my player ratings from the game:

Arsenal Player Ratings

Szczesny – 8.5 – Several good stops including saving Kuyt’s penalty and subsequent follow-up and an excellent finger-tip save to deny Suarez.

Sagna – 7.5 – Superb cross to set up Van Persie for the equaliser and was Arsenal’s best defender today.

Vermaelen – 7 – Strong presence at the back and dealt with most of what Liverpool could throw at the Gunners.

Koscielny – 6 – Not at his best today. Scored an own goal and gave away a couple of needless dangerous free kicks. Suarez got the better of him a few times as well.

Gibbs – 6.5 – Looks to be getting back to somewhere near his best, but went missing to let Henderson free to cross in the build-up to Liverpool’s opener.

Song – 8 – Another stunning assist for RVP’s winner, and a great all-round performance from Song.

Arteta – 6 – Was well below par before being stretchered off after colliding with Henderson.

Rosicky – 6 – Not up to the high standards set last week. Liverpool dominated the midfield meaning Rosicky couldn’t really influence things.

Walcott – 5.5 – Did well to get a shot off in the first half that forced a good save from Reina but it was all down hill from there. Couldn’t really get into the game but did see a second half shot blocked.

Benayoun – 5 – Hardly saw the ball and just couldn’t get himself in the game. Subbed.

Van Persie – 9 – Saw little of the ball but when he did, he was devastating. That’s the sign of a quality striker. Another brace and the winner was superb.

Gervinho – 5 – Made little impact during his time on the pitch.

Diaby – 6 – Showed a nice piece of skill to get some space to get a shot off, that was easily saved, but then had to be replaced late on. Hopefully he hasn’t picked up another injury.

Chamberlain – 5 – Came on in a more central position but gave the ball away carelessly a couple of times. Little time to impress though.

In the interest of being fair, i’ll give my Liverpool ratings as well:

Liverpool players ratings: Reina (7), Kelly (6), Carragher (5), Skrtel (7), Enrique (7), Adam (7), Henderson (6.5), Spearing (6), Downing (7), Kuyt (7), Suarez (8).

if song didnt get the assist
he would be getting a 5.

offer little of not no protection for the defence.

song is playing more of a creative midfield explains why our defence is always easy to get at.

Bcos of our style of play we need that perfect passer or dribbler to feed the front 3, non of our fit midfielders can do that so song has to always force his way tru for the assists bcos arteta & Co can’t do it. Compare xavi, iniesta and messi in barca. So until jack and diaby return fully lovely footbal will be absent

I thought Koscielny had an excellent game despite the own goal (which happens to ALL defenders btw). He is our best defender (a view shared with Martin Keown)although Sagna comes very close today, both deserve 8 me thinks.

Henderson a 6.5 more like a 2, it was 10 v 11 as he was that crap. Mind you he was consistent, same crap different. Dalglish if you are as passionate about Liverpool as you claim its to play the best team…. Drop the likes of Henderson, Carrol and Downing we have Kuyt, Bellamy and Maxi to cover those positions….. Sell these planks, bring back Aquaman and sign some decent non English crap….

Invailable 3points! We looked crap because Wegner played… Injured/tired Mids hoping to dublicate Spuds victory. Benayoun went missing (offensively) should have started Gervinho. Arteta Was slow and no drive as usual. When Diaby came on game changed Liverpool mids couldn’t get close to him (ability to drive create space and hold on to the ball). Rosicky all the sudden was a live and involved. We really miss Diaby and Jack in the middle. Sanga is Beast, Theo didn’t get the laps and he panicks ball at his feet! Thank you Woj and Captain V…. Song is a class and had he played with Wilshere and Daiby he will be the perfect box to box Mid (strength, vission, desire) see the best striker in the world at the moment Kiss Songs Boot…. that tells you what he means to his team.. Boss wanted the 3 points… You can tell his body language willing his team to victory… I wish he does that for Trophies too instead of the 20mil Champoins League spot. Cheers…

Sorry for saying this, Dalgish is becoming like a crap coach and his stubbornness is starting to show. All I can say is they don’t deserve to be in the champions leagues for the next 3 seasons. Dalgish, please stocky big striker Andy Caroll is simply not effective at all!!!

    Rosicky not influential?
He provided BOTH of the pre-assists today (the key pass before the assist). Don’t tell me he’s not influential. He’s provided a hell of alot of important pre-assists. He instigates many attacks – what we usually lack without him. Learn to notice this.
A LOT of Arsenal fans underrate him and don’t appreciate his contribution. Those two passes were absolutely key in each goal. Watch him more closer. He is key in our midfield. He deserves 7.5 for those 2 key passes which lead to the goals. Come on.

Our wings r dead, so i don’t blame song for trying to go up n create more chance, i think he has now created quite a number of good play, same killer pass as everton game. Walcot people keep thinking he is all of the sudden gonna improve, but wake up n smell the coffee, this kid has no foodball iq, he just runs n don’t let the goals fool u, it’s total luck.

Rosicky & Song are playing well
