If there is one thing that can ruin a last minute 2-1 win at Anfield, it’s injuries! Arsenal came from behind to beat Liverpool on Saturday but the win came at a cost, as Arsene Wenger has confirmed to Arsenal.com that four of his team have picked up injuries.

Perhaps the most worrying is Mikel Arteta, who was stretchered off and taken to hospital after being knocked unconscious following a collision with Jordan Henderson.

Midfielder Abou Diaby has had his fair share of bad luck with injuries in recent seasons and it doesn’t seem like this luck is going to change any time soon. Diaby came on after 53 minutes for Arteta but was forced off after just over 30 minutes with a hamstring injury. Truly awful luck for the guy, and a hamstring problem will is likely to mean at least 3 weeks out.

Yossi Benayoun and Kieran Gibbs also picked up injuries which will make them doubts for Tuesday’s second leg against AC Milan. Here is what Wenger told Arsenal.com after the game yesterday:

on Mikel Arteta’s injury…

As I sit here now, he is in hospital at the moment and we have no news.

on Abou Diaby…

The bad news of the day is that Diaby is injured and did his hamstring. Benayoun has a small hamstring problem, Gibbs has a problem. We look decimated after the game. I don’t know who will be available on Tuesday night. Maybe I will play with six strikers as we have to score goals!

So just as we began to get the majority of the squad back on the pitch, we’re picking up injuries at just the wrong time of the season. Hopefully none of the quartet are long-term as we need everyone fit to maintain our push for a Champions League place, and possibly even snatching third from the Spuds 😉
