Arsenal midfielder Jack Wilshere has revealed that he would rather win the World Cup with England than the Champions League with Arsenal.

Former Gunner Ian Wright asked Wilshere via Twitter if he would rather win the World Cup with England or the Champions League with Arsenal, to which Jack replied with an emphatic “world cup with England mate!”.

Really?! Now i realise the World Cup is looked upon as the pinnacle of football and it will no doubt be every footballers dream to lift the cup with their country, but i must say i was a little surprised at how easily Jack answered the question. He’s got a fair bit of stick from his Twitter followers for this, which i think is ridiculous, but i do think he could have thought a little more about his answer.

The Champions League is arguably a better footballing standard that the World Cup and just as difficult to win, given the fact a team has to first play a full season just to qualify, followed by a gruelling series of group games and knockouts.

It’s no doubt a tough question to answer for any footballer and fair play if Wilshere would rather win the World Cup, i’ve got no problem with that. He is clearly a patriotic guy who loves to play for his country. But i would have liked him to at least show The Arsenal a little love and reply with something like; “Hmmmm, tough one Wrighty. Both would be amazing, but the World Cup just edges it”.

What do you Gooners think? Should Wilshere have shown a little more ‘love’ to Arsenal? Or is a World Cup win greater than any club competition?
