Park - Military service delayed

Arsenal’s South Korea striker Park Chu-Young has received a huge boost after it’s been confirmed that he will be able to delay his compulsory national military service by 10 years, according to the Guardian.

The report claims that the Military Manpower Administration of South Korea have announced today that Park’s 10-year residency visa from Monaco means he qualifies to be able to delay his military service until 2022.

All South Korean men have to serve 2-3 years in the military with no exception made for star footballers, so Park was expected to start his service within the next 18 months. However this ruling will come as a huge boost to the player as he will now be able to complete his footballing career without it being derailed by his national service commitments.

Park joined the Gunners from Monaco in the summer and has hardly been given a sniff at first team action by Arsene Wenger, despite his superb goal-scoring form for his country.  Maybe now his long-term future has been settled, the striker can concentrate on forging a career in the Premier League and break into the Arsenal set up.
