FA Cup: Chelsea 5-1 Tottenham: 5 star Blues ease past Spurs
Chelsea reached the FA Cup final with a resounding 5-1 victory over Tottenham at Wembley on Sunday afternoon. Here is a brief match report and video highlights
Chelsea sent out a massive statement to Barcelona on Sunday, after an emphatic 5-1 win against spurs in the FA Cup semi final.
Chelsea fans where optimistic going into the game with Di Matteo revitalising Chelsea in recent weeks, and the display produced yesterday was up there with one of the greatest i’ve seen as a Chelsea supporter. The hunger and desire of every player was clear to see.
The game started in a fairly open way, with both teams having chances. Kalou finding space before sliding through Juan Mata, however the spaniard failed to make contact in a dangerous position.
Rafeal Van Der Vaart had a great glancing header that beat Cech but failed to beat the Chelsea skipper, as John Terry produced a goal line clearance.
Towards the end of the half Chelsea took the lead through veteran Didier Drogba. The Ivorian with a fantastic strike after turning on his left foot before smashing the ball into the top corner, incredible. Chelsea 1-0 Tottenham.
The second half begin in the same manner. Chelsea had a lot of possession and were pressing for the second. It came in controversial circumstances when a corner from frank Lampard lead to a Juan Mata shot that seemed to hit John Terry on the goal line. The goal was given to the frustration of the spurs fans and players. The ball was no way over the line, another incident for the FA to look at and push for goal line technology. Chelsea 2-0 Tottenham.
However, Spurs immediately hit back when Emmanuel Adebayor burst through on goal and rounded Cech, the keeper upended the striker but Bale was on hand to tap home for 2-1. Chelsea 2-1 Tottenham. Good refereeing as he played the advantage, but would Spurs rather have had the penalty and Cech sent off?
Chelsea kept up the attacking ambitions and soon restored their two-goal cushion. A delightful ball in to the box from the Juan Mata found Ramires. The Brazilian took little time in cooling flicking the ball past the helpless Cudicini. Chelsea 3-1 Tottenham.
Chelsea were now in the groove and Spurs looked defeated. A free kick from over 30 yards out, Lamps looked like he fancied this one. The ref blows his whistle and Lamps unleashed an unstoppable strike that flew past Cudicini and into the net. One of the best free kicks i’ve seen in a long while. Chelsea 4-1 Tottenham.
The game was over as a contest as Tottenham fans began to make there journey home. Malouda came off the bench to rub further salt into the wounds, as he stroked the ball home to make it 5-1 after another lovely Mata pass.
An absolute rout in the end. Although no doubt that the controversial second ‘ghost goal’ will be the talking point of the game. Chelsea will play Liverpool in the final on the 5th of May. Next up for Di Matteos side is an easy visit from Barcelona. 5-1 anyone?
