Wenger – I’m Ready To Spend This Summer….But Won’t Break The Bank

Boss Arsene Wenger has claimed that he is ready to spend money this summer, but will continue to follow the clubs transfer policies and work within his budget

Gunners boss Arsene Wenger has claimed that he is ready to spend money this summer, but will continue to follow the clubs transfer policies and work within his budget.

Arsenal made a disappointing start to the season that was followed by a dip in form in January, and at that time Arsenal fans were calling for manager Arsene Wenger to spend some serious money this summer in strengthening the squad. However, the Gunners have made a spectacular recovery having won nine out of their last ten games and now sit five points clear of third-placed Tottenham.

While this turn in form has shown what the Arsenal team are capable of, fans and ex-players, including former defender Sol Campbell, are still aware that the squad needs additional quality if they are to mount a serious bid for trophies next season.

Speaking to on Friday, Wenger agreed that his squad needed strengthened and revealed he will be looking to bring in some fresh faces in the summer, but insisted he will continue to respect the clubs transfer policy.

“What has not changed at all is our policy that we will be as ambitious as ever and spend the money we have available, if possible in an intelligent and wise way,” he said.

“We have always spent money because we are ambitious for top-class players and if you look at the history of our last 15 years, we have always had top-class players. Sol Campbell is one of them.” Wenger told

When asked about being able to compete with the likes of Man City and Chelsea for a players signature, Wenger conceded it was difficult was insisted it didn’t mean his side couldn’t still be competitive.

“It does not mean you cannot win the title,” he said. “There are two basic trophies for me that are the sign of the quality of a team; they are the Premier League and the Champions League.

“The Champions League is prestigious and it is half league and half cup. That means that at the end, the teams who wins must show real quality.

“All the rest, they are trophies of course and they are important, but they do not really reflect the deep quality of a team. The championship does, and we want to win it.

“Our ambition is intact, to win the championship. It depends on how we finish the season to decide how much we need to buy to have a chance to win the championship next season.” Wenger continued on

Your comment shows that you either don’t know anything about the game or you are a fan of another club who is jealous we have Wenger.
We will happily take who Wenger brings because he has never let us down. People moan about a player when he’s bought, but say he is the best in his position in the premier league, example:- Koscienly, Song, Ox, and many more.

I want to see him spend, but not beyond our budget. I’ll be an Arsenal fan 5, 10, 20 years from now. Yes I want them to win silverware next year, but not at the risk of getting into financial trouble (which always takes years and years to come out of). Given the uncertainty in the global economy, now is just not the time to take financial risks.

Sure, if we had an owner like Chelsea or City we could do more, but in my opinion, they represent everything that’s wrong with football these days – runaway transfer fees, outrageous player salaries, etc.

There has been a lot of criticism of silent Stan, but he (and owners like him) are not the problem.

a great to achieve no 3. position after a poor start it can be done only like arsene wenger no other can achieve it. so for the consistency is good . there will be striker crisis when RVP injured. they must buy a quality stiker.

Now that is the right frame of mind, spending vast amounts of money on players has ruIned the game. We do need to spend but not ridiculously like man city or Chelsea. A realistic list of players who I would like to see at the emirates: Hennessy, sakho, m’villa, kagawa, podolski, and another striker.

My preferred signings would be to keep our first choice players we have; Szcesny, Sagna, Koscielny, Vermaelen, Mertesacker, Gibbs, Santos, Song, Arteta, Wilshere, Rosicky, Walcott, van Pesie, Oxlade-Chamberlain, Gervinho (13 21+ players).

Look at the age and “nationality” structure. We need to replace a few unsuccessful older players with some youth talent. Sell Bendtner, Denilson, Almunia, Squillaci (4 21+ players). This should save us more than 100k/week

Jury is still out on Diaby, Vela, Lansbury, Arshavin, Mannone, Fabianski, Chamakh, Park, Djourou (9 21+ players). Lose 3 of these and another 100k/week is saved. Use 200k to get 1-2 top players and increase van Persie’s and we’re done.

If we keep next season´s squad players; Miyaichi, Ramsey, Jenkinson, Frimpong, Coquelin and Yennaris (the two last ones really impressed this season), Afobe, Aneke, etc – they should be the basis for squad players. 21+ players should typically be first team starters + maybe 1 or 2 like Benayoun who has grown on me.

Our problem this season was the first few weeks before the team settled after losing our 3 top creative players and when our 4! full backs were out injured.

To win champions league it means to have top class players so Venger can never find good quality for cheap as I see he has wasted all his money in some players that arsenal bought for example Mertesacker compare him with Vorthogen we could have bought Vorthogen for the same amount since last year,Venger spent 6.5 million for Squilaci this is madness even for the Santos 7.5 million we had the chance to buy Luis Enrique who is much better as a defensive player arsen venger he has never been serious of buying good players before starting the season arsenal had the chance to buy William from shahtar doneck he his top class player but hi ignored him as a striker I prefer Berbatov he has much more experience compare to somebody if we get from the other league thanks

As much as I support Wenger as manager and want him to say. This sounds like the begginings of the usual backtracking on previous comments about spending. Next to come is “my squad is strong enough and i will kill a young player by spending money.” “There is no one available in the market”
No one ever expected Wenger to get ripped off and if they did they are idiots… what Arsenal need is just more of the same and to not sell our best players.

Agree of not breaking the bank
Finding the right player is so much harder than buying overpriced divas like Nasri… Lesbian Diva

But our season is a series of dejavu of the season before…
I’m really afraid he will only sign one player like 2009
He promised RVP that he will show ambition so that he’ll sign new contract and only bring in Vermaelen and that Gallindo kid

We’re only 2-3 Player behind Coquelin is a decent Le Bac Back up and i really want the under performing players who have given enough chance to move on… Lansbury Bartley need chance on the squad 🙁

Spend buying quality not quantity. We need
trophies you guy just like you get salary. Its more likely that what i personally give in to the club is exactly part of what is given to Wenger as salary. So you guy i’m your bosss. Work to fulfill my expectations.

If Arsenal are going for the title they need to strengthen every line on the squad. Arsenal need a player like Vertoughen and a left back to recover for Gibbs squizzy legs. M’Vila and a playmaker like Belhanda would be needed as well and then a striker like Podolski to support RvP. Wenger need to use some money, not break the bank, but use some money to invest in the title. Every big company is using money, which they sometimes don’t have, to earn them back later the same year and probably more. Thats how business works. But still, Arsenal should have 50 mill or more from previous sales the last years, to acquire the players they need. I’ve been a Arsenal-fan for many-many years. But I’m very tired of Wengers and the boards conservatism in running the Club. The world changes, so should Arsenal.

First, we need a creative winger and that would be Hazard. 2nd, we need a good DM who can create chance and defend better than Song and that would be M’vila. 3rd, we need a better defender to help out some of our defenders who is always out of form or injured and that would be Vertonghen. Lastly, Podolski of course to support van Persie
