By Ryan Kane.

Tottenham could be about to make a swoop for English midfielders Joe Cole and Michael Carrick according to reports. Cole is currently a free agent after being released by former club Chelsea at the end of the 2009/10 Premier League campaign. Manchester United have already ruled out a move for the 28-year old as rivals Arsenal and Tottenham battle it out for the wingers signature. According to recent reports Spurs’ defender Gareth Bale has urged manager Harry Redknapp to snap up Cole before it’s too late. Redknapp has since told “TalkSport” that the club were

“interested in Joe (Cole)”.

before going on to say

If the chairman can pull a deal off I’d love to have him at Tottenham.

Cole scored 28 league goals for Chelsea during his seven year stint at Stamford Bridge. The midfielder was also included in Fabio Capello’s World Cup squad this summer as England endured a dismal campaign, eventually dumped out by Germany in the last 16.

Manchester United’s Michael Carrick has reportedly been the subject of a bidding war between Spurs and Sunderland. According to “The Daily Mail”, Steve Bruce is set to make a £7 million offer for the 28-year old whilst “The Daily Star” have claimed that Tottenham will make a £12 million bid to bring the midfielder back to White Hart Lane. Carrick, who was part of United’s Champions League winning side in 2008, had made 64 league appearances for Spurs before making the move to Old Trafford.

Harry Redknapp has been given a reported transfer budget of £40 million to spend this summer as Spurs prepare to contend in next season’s UEFA Champions League. £6 million of which “premiershiptalk.com” have reported may be used to lure Manchester City’s Craig Bellamy to the club. The Welsh striker, who managed 12 league goals for City last term, has played for Norwich, Newcastle, Blackburn, West Ham and Liverpool during his time in England. It is thought the opportunity to play Champions League football next season may be enough to entice the 30-year old to White Hart Lane. Tottenham piped Bellamy’s Manchester City side to fourth spot in the league last time out.
