Arsenal are mulling over a move for Montpillier defender Mapou Yanga-Mbiwa, according to a report by the Daily Mirror.

Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger is likely to add to his defensive options this summer and the Mirror claim that the Frenchman has identified the 22-year-old as a possible target. The report states that the Montpillier captain has only one year left on his current deal and could be available this summer for around £7m.

Yanga-Mbiwa broke into the Montpillier side aged just 18 and has gone on to play over 150 games for the Ligue 1 outfit so far. His versatility will also be appealing to Wenger, although his primary position is centre back he is able to play anywhere across the backline as well as in defensive midfield.

The France under 21 international has previously revealed his desire to play in the Premier League, with the Mirror quoting him as saying:

“People live for football in England, and that is what I want to experience.

“I’ll see what offers I get, but English football is incredible. There is more physical contact than in France, but I like that – it suits my style of play.”
