Barcelona are set to miss out on top target Gareth Bale after refusing to meet Tottenham’s valuation of the player, according to the Daily Mail.

The Telegraph claimed over the weekend that Barca had made Bale their top summer transfer target and would test Tottenham’s resolve by making their interest official in the summer.

However, the Mail are reporting today that the Catalans will refuse to bid higher than €20m (£16.5m) for the Welsh winger, which is well short of the £40m that would be required for Daniel Levy to even entertain selling his prized asset. Pep Guardiola has short listed Valencia left back Jordi Alba as an alternative, as the Spaniard would cost a far more reasonable £10.5m.

The report also suggests that AC Milan are monitoring Bale’s situation but with Barca out the picture, it’s likely the 22-year-old will remain at White Hart Lane for at least another season.

Barca are always looking to under-pay for their targets but Daniel Levy is not one to be messed with when it comes to transfers. He will laugh at them if they come in with a bid of £16.5m, that’s for sure. The only way i can see Bale leaving Spurs this summer is if Real Madrid enter the picture and are willing to pay big money, or if Harry leaves, Tottenham miss out on the top four and players like Modric and VDV decide it’s time to jump ship.
