Roy Hodgson - New England boss?

The Football Association have tonight confirmed they have been granted permission by West Bromwich Albion to speak with Roy Hodgson about the vacant England managers position.

Hodgson has done a fantastic job with Albion, who are on course for a top 10 finish this season, and it seems he may be set to lead England into the Euro’s after the FA confirmed on theFA.com that they have been given permission to speak with the 64-year-old. A statement read:

“West Bromwich Albion have today granted permission for The FA to speak with Roy Hodgson regarding the position of England Manager.

This follows an approach from FA Chairman David Bernstein to West Bromwich Albion Chairman Jeremy Peace.

David Bernstein said: “I’m grateful to Jeremy and all at West Bromwich Albion for their co-operation in allowing us to approach Roy, who I have since spoken with.

“Roy is the only manager we have approached and we remain on course to make an appointment within the timescale we set-out soon after Fabio Capello’s departure.

“Further conversations will now take place with Roy and my Club England colleagues before any further announcements can be made.”

The appointment of Hodgson will come as a huge surprise to many, with Tottenham manager Harry Redknapp the overwhelming favourite to land the role since Fabio Capello departed.

However, it seems the Spurs manager has been overlooked in favour of the former Liverpool, Blackburn and Fulham supremo, who is expected to accept the job and will lead England into the Euro’s this summer.

What do you think of the FA’s choice? Should they have gone for Harry instead?
