Real Madrid Preparing £40m Van Persie Bid – Should Arsenal Sell?

Arsenal are bracing themselves for a £40m bid from Spanish giants Real Madrid for striker Robin van Persie, but the Gunners are determined to keep hold of him

With the summer transfer window just around the corner, we’ll bring you the latest transfer news involving Arsenal. Today sees Real Madrid linked with a move for the Gunners captain.

Robin van Persie 2

Arsenal are bracing themselves for a £40m bid from Real Madrid for striker Robin van Persie, according to the Daily Star.

As most Gooners will be aware by now, van Persie will enter the final year of his contract this summer and despite Arsenal’s attempts to open negotiations several months ago, the 28-year-old decided to delay talks until this summer prompting speculation that he could be set to leave the Emirates.

The Daily Star report today that Spanish giants Real Madrid will test the Gunners resolve by launching a £40m offer for the Dutchman this summer, and will fund the move by selling Argentine Gonzalo Higuain.

Arsenal are determined to keep hold of the recently crowned PFA and FWA player of the year and have hinted they may force him to run down the final year of his contract should he refuse to sign an extension. However, if Madrid come in with a bid of £40m it would be extremely difficult for the Arsenal hierarchy to turn down.

Should Arsenal sell if RVP refuses to extend his deal and Real Madrid offer £40m? Probably, yes. It’s never wise to keep a player who isn’t committed to the club and £40m would be an excellent return for a player who will soon turn 29. However, i personally think van Persie will sign an extension at the end of the season and stay at the Emirates.

Obviously it depends on whether van Persie agrees to sign the new contract or not. If he does not, then I would take Higuain plus cash for van Persie.

i would take a stright swop with benzima.

      but its unlikey
real wont pay 40M for someone thats in his last year and they also have benzima and higuan who are doing very very well at madrid.

For my own opinion, I will advice Wenger to let him do whatever he want to do. If He want to leave let hin go, if he want to go, let him go to other club. Another players can even better than him next session.

If the hope is to improve then Podolski should be an addition to RvP, so no I wouldn’t sell no matter the financial consequences.

Well if we do sell don’t expect to see £1 of the £40 million reinvested in to the club we have already made all of our summer signing already

I would say 20m plus Higuain for RVP if the deal is said to be worth 40m(which I doubt)…..see RVP is still to decide…..so if any such things come through then why not !!!

I would be happy to see a deal like that, at least it would give us a replacement on top of Podolski, I would also think about swapping RVP for Higuan and Kaka.

Definately will take 40 million, or cash + player! only if its reinvested back into the club with 2 World class player!
Ps two players I’d like us to sign is Shinji Kagawa(dortmund) and javi martinez(Bilbao). any other addition would be a bonus. *fingers Crossed*

We dont want player that is not commited to our dearest club. So if vp refuse 2 extend his contract aw should instead of loosin a whole £40m

If RVP wont sign a new contract then as good as he is they should sell. He is at the wrong end of his 20’s and has just come off a successful season. I dont think he will stay injury free and anything upwards from £25-£30 million would be hard to refuse. If the money is spent wisely on a replacemen, things will be ok.

There is only one RVP. NO player, or money can replace, Captain who serve 8 years in this club. This things dont have price tag.

    May 2, 2012 at 3:50 pm

Yeah this all obviously comes down to the contract. Hopefully he will sign, we shouldnt even think of selling the one player, our captain, who has pulled us through this season alone. But if he wont sign a new contract, 40m is better than off for free in a years time, plus as good as he is, hes still human and lack of form / injuries can play a big part. He must be like for like replaced if the unmentionable happens tho.

Robin is the best striker in the prem without question. We need to keep our best players. That said.. if he wants to leave then I can’t see any other option but to sell. I would take benzima over higuin any day. Let’s hope Wenger buys vertongen befor tottenham and m’vills to try and perswade persie to stay

This is one rumour tthat doesn’t make sense. through out the season, RMadrid had had no problems getting goals – a basketful of them through C.Ronaldo, Higuian and Benzema. R.Madrid has no business splashing 40m on RvP. mourinho is no dummy coach so, he knoes this.

However, if he comes forward with such an offer and RvP’s head is turned = which in itself is doubtful, I’ll prefer that Arsenal takes the money.

We cannot afford the new spirit in the club which seems to have all the players loving and pulling for the club, to be lost.

    there no thick club
who would pay 40 million for a player who is in his last year of his contract and dose not want to sign a new one.

if v perise wants to leave
i expect offers to be round the 25-30M

Who wil be the next Arsenal legend after HENRY if we continue to sell all our best player every year without pasuade them to stay at the club. Let VP knows that he can become one of important figure at Emirate if stay at the club.

Im starting to sound like a stuck record BUT lets keep it real Gooners – we wont be gettin no £40M for RVP! If by some miracle we do then it needs to b re-invested in Falcao, Hulk or Saldado/Llorente along with Javi Martinez & Belhanda!

Will it happen I doubt it! COYG

If Arsene wenger is really ready to invest all the 40m, den we should let go of Robin van persie, i dont think van persie can make it injury free next season but am scared of wenger

If RvP wants to go then 40 mil is good money and AW should get Olivier Giroud as replacement

If there is ANY truth in this story, Arsenal would be foolish not to accept.
Van Persie has been an excellent servant of the Club and, imo, this season he has really blossomed. I do not think, however, we will see him repeat the heroics again.
Football clubs can be cruel employers of players of near 30 or so and think what could be achieved with £40m.

  28. Bangladesh

Let him go. I think we would get over £30Mil for him even though he’s in his last year, we got £25Mil for Nasri who had half a good season and RVP is the PFA and FWA player of the year so easily £30 – £35 i would say
With that we can get Higuain and another creative midfielder and I’m sure Higuain would like more playing time something he isn’t getting at Madrid due to Benzema’s top form
RVP has had one good full season, for all we know, he could be injured all of next season so if he doesn’t sign let him go and bring in Higuain who could easily score 25+ goals in the EPL!

Only if we receive an offer of 35m+ should we sell. There is no guarantee we be injury free next season or that his form will stay so consistent. With 40m Wenger could take a top striker such as Giroud to complement Podolski and use some of our existing funds to purchase CAM like Gotze if he is availible otherwise buy M’Vila and Wilshere can play attacking mid. Make the Verminator captain that we have a title-winning team.
