Chelsea are lining up a move for Bayern Leverkusen striker André Schürrle, according to the Telegraph.

Blues owner Roman Abramovich is keen to rebuild his ageing squad this summer, despite interim manager Roberto Di Matteo guiding them to the finals of the FA Cup and Champions League, with the Russian believed to be targeting young and hungry players.

German international Schürrle fits the profile perfectly and the Telegraph report that Chelsea have made initial enquiries over the players availability, but have yet to make a formal offer. Should they choose to follow up their interest, it’s reported the Londoners will test the water with a bid of between £14m and £15.5m for the 21-year-old this summer.

Leverkusen signed the 6ft forward only last year for £6.5m but he has enjoyed a hugely successful first season, and has managed to break into the German national side, scoring 5 goals in his 12 caps so far.

Chelsea found out first hand the qualities of Schürrle when they faced Leverkusen during the group stages of this seasons Champions League.
