Chelsea welcome relegated Blackburn Rovers to Stamford Bridge on Sunday for the final game of the season.

The match is practically meaningless for both sides, as no matter the result Chelsea will finish sixth – their lowest Premier League placing in a decade – and Rovers are already getting used to life back in the Championship next season.

The Blues go into the game off the back of a 4-1 thumping by Liverpool on Tuesday, a result which ended their hopes of a top four finish. Roberto Di Matteo will now have to win the Champions League in Munich next week if they are to be playing in Europe’s elite competition next season.

Team news

Di Matteo could decide to use this game as a warm up for next weeks Champions League final against Bayern Munich, but it’s more than likely the Italian will take no risks and rest his key men once again.

A weakened side was played at Anfield in midweek so the likes of Ross Turnbull, Paulo Ferrirra, Ryan Bertrand and Romeu are likely to feature once again, and youngster Lukaku could be given a rare start to protect both Torres and Drogba.

Terry, Ivanovic, Ramires and Meireles are all suspended for next weeks final so are likely to feature on Sunday but both David Luiz and Gary Cahill are both still struggling to be fit for the Bayern game, but will be given every opportunity to make the game.

Blackburn will be without Bradley Orr after the defender had surgery on an achilles injury. Paul Robinson is struggling with injury but is likely to make it, while key midfielder David Dunn will also face a late fitness test.

Gael Givet is fit to play despite being forced off during last weeks defeat to Wigan.

Predicted Score

Despite Chelsea’s weakened side, they will still have too much for a beleaguered Blackburn team who have Championship football to look forward to next season. Chelsea 2-0 Blackburn.
