Arsenal are set to offer Robin van Persie a club record £7m-a-year deal in order to keep him at the club, according to the Daily Mail.

The report claims that Arsene Wenger and Ivan Gazidis will meet with Van Persie and his representatives on Wednesday at a neutral location in London to start talks over the players future. The Gunners are prepared to make the Dutchman the highest paid player in the clubs history by offering him a new three year deal worth £130,000-a-week, around £7m-a-year, as well as a £5m signing on fee, making the total package worth a staggering £26m.

Wenger had hoped to get talks out the way quickly and have RVP’s future sorted before he left for Euro 2012, but the Mail believe that the 28-year-old is keen to see what his options are before making a decision, meaning it’s unlikely a definitive conclusion will be reached this week.

An offer of £130,000-per-week plus a £5m signing on bonus is sure to tempt Van Persie into staying in London, especially considering we’ve secured Champions League football next season, but the fact remains that he could still earn more elsewhere, so whether his love for the club is enough to keep him at the Emirates remains to be seen.

The Mail say that despite the riches being offered by Manchester City, Van Perise would find it difficult to sign for another Premier League team, leaving Real Madrid and Barcelona as the most likely destinations should our skipper decide it’s time to move on.

I’ve always been confident RVP would sign an extension as long as we secured third, and i hope i’m proved right. We should know a lot more in the coming days, let’s just keep our fingers crossed Arsene can persuade him to remain with the club.
