Robin van Persie 2

Morning Gooners. There is an interesting development on the future of Robin van Persie today as the Daily Mail are reporting the striker’s proposed move to Manchester City could be in danger of collapsing due to the Dutchman’s wage demands.

Van Persie met with manager Arsene Wenger and chief executive Ivan Gazidis on Wednesday to discuss his future and it’s reported that talks ended without conclusion before the player headed off to Euro 2012 with Holland.

This lead to several reports claiming Man City were in pole position to sign the striker this summer, with the Guardian today claiming the newly-crowned Premier League champions were confident of tying up a deal in the coming weeks.

However, the Daily Mail suggest that a move to City is in jeopardy due to the 28-year-old demanding £275,000-a-week in wages, which would put him on level par with the Lionel Messi’s and Cristiano Ronaldo’s of this world. And it’s not only City who have baulked at these demands, as Real Madrid and Barcelona are also said to be put off by Van Persie’s expectations, with UEFA’s Financial Fair Play rules ensuring the clubs are keeping a close eye on their wage bills.

So there may be hope yet Arsenal fans. I must admit it looked like RVP was destined to leave this summer and i expected City to pay whatever it would take to land him. But if they are going to refuse to meet his wage demands, Van Persie will be left in an awkward situation.

Does he go back to Arsenal with his tail between his legs and sign an extension, or does he lower his demands and still push for a move? We’ll find out in the next few weeks i suppose, and we’ll keep you up-to-date on how things progress.
