Hazard - wanted man

Arsenal are the mystery fourth team who are trying to sign Lille’s Eden Hazard, according to the Daily Star.

Hazard is set for a move to the Premier League this summer and after being linked with a whole host of clubs, it was thought his options had been narrowed down to Man City, Man Utd and Chelsea as his next destination.

However, Lille director Federic Paquet revealed earlier this week that there was now a mystery fourth club who were also in the running for his signature, and the Daily Star claim that club to be Arsenal.

The report says that Arsene Wenger is determined not to lose out on one of his long-term targets and has made late efforts to keep the Gunners in the hunt for the highly-rated winger. It’s thought the Frenchman is willing to pay the required £32m transfer fee but the major stumbling block could be the players £200,000-a-week wage demands.

However, Wenger remains hopeful that he could persuade Hazard to opt for Arsenal due to their ability to offer him first team football, something the player has hinted as being vitally important in his decision.

Football Talk Verdict

It’s been no secret that Arsene Wenger is a fan of the 21-year-old’s and the Gunners were linked with Hazard last summer, but i really think the Star is just putting 2 & 2 together and getting 5 here.

It’s difficult enough to see Wenger splashing £30m on a single player, never mind having to contend with the likes of City, United and Chelsea for wages, etc.

Perhaps Arsenal are trying their luck but i’d be majorly shocked if Hazard ended up in North London this summer. The good thing is the player has promised to make his decision by the 2nd June, so we can finally put an end to all the speculation.
