Shinji-Kagawa

Manchester United are closing in on the signing of Shinji Kagawa from Borussia Dortmund, according to a report in the Guardian.

The report claims that United saw an initial bid of €18m rejected by Dortmund last week but Fergie was determined not to miss out on a second transfer target after seeing Eden Hazard reject a move in favour of Chelsea, and the Red Devil’s have finally agreed a fee worth a total of €22m (£17.m) including add-ons for the talented midfielder.

All that remains is for the player to agree personal terms, and the 23-year-old is understood to be back in Japan and has left negotiations to his agent Thomas Kroth.

The Guardian don’t believe that phase of the transfer will be a problem, as Kagawa currently earns a modest salary of around €750,000 and is understood to be intent on joining United and won’t let issues over wages stand in his way.

Fergie has been tracking Kagawa for some time now and was in the stands to watch the Japanese international score during a 5-2 win over Bayern Munich in the German Cup final, which rounded off an impressive season that saw him score 13 goals in 31 league games to help Dortmund land the Bundesliga title.
