Benzema Responds To Transfer Rumours
Karim Benzema has insisted he’s happy at Real Madrid despite rumours linking him with a move, but refused to rule out a possible future move to the Premiership
The summer transfer window is open and Football Talk will bring you all the latest transfer news. Today, Karim Benzema responds to rumours about his future.
France striker Karim Benzema has insisted he’s happy at Real Madrid, but refused to rule out a future move to the Premier League.
Quoted in the Metro, Benzema responded to rumours suggesting he could be set for a move away from Madrid this summer. The likes of Arsenal and Man Utd have long been linked with the France striker while the Daily Mail report today that Man City are in talks with the players agent about a move to the Etihad Stadium.
However, the former Lyon ace claims he’s happy at Real and has no intention of leaving any time soon, while also revealing that Man Utd have made several attempts to sign him in the past.
‘The rumours about my future are common, every summer it’s the same that I will be going to this club and that club,’ Benzema said.
‘But I am very happy at Real Madrid and the thought about leaving has never crossed my mind. I know Manchester United have tried to sign me for the past three or four seasons.
‘When I was at Lyon they and a number of other English clubs wanted me but could not agree terms with Lyon. Besides, I wanted to go to Spain and I can honestly say I have never regretted that decision.
‘I’m still young and I have a contract at Madrid until 2015. I still want to achieve things at the club. I have had a taste of success after winning the Spanish title but I want more.’
The 24-year-old has established himself in Jose Mourinho’s team after a difficult start to life in Spain, and bagged 31 goals last season as Madrid pipped Barcelona to the La Liga title.
However, despite being settled at the Bernabeu, Benzema alerted Arsenal, United and City by refusing to rule out a possible move to the Premier League at some point in his career.
‘I would never say never about coming to England and, to be honest, I have no real preference in terms of teams,’ he said.
‘But that is a long way in the future, not something I would even consider at the moment.’
