Arsenal are prepared to sell striker Robin van Persie but will demand a fee of at least £30m if the player insists he wants to leave the Emirates this summer

Morning Gooners. More news doing the rounds on the future of Robin van Persie today with the Mirror reporting that Arsenal are prepared to sell the striker but will demand at least £30m.

Van Persie has only one year left on his current contract and has yet to agree an extension, despite holding talks with manager Arsene Wenger and chief executive Ivan Gazidis at the end of last season.

We have offered the Dutchman a club record £130,000-a-week offer to stay, while chairman Peter Hill-Wood has previously admitted we will be unable to compete with the money offered elsewhere.

The Mirror report that although Arsenal are still hopeful they can persuade Van Persie to remain at the Emirates, if he does insist on leaving we will demand a fee of at least £30m for our captain. Man City and Juventus are interested, while PSG are also thought to be keeping an eye on the situation.

Arsene Wenger is thought to be willing to let RVP run down his contract if no-one matches that valuation, but that could prove a risky strategy for the player as he would be nearing his 30th birthday by that point, which may see his market value drop and he will no longer be able to demand top wages.

So it all comes down to whether Van Persie is willing to commit to the club this summer or not. If he’s not willing to commit to a new 3 or 4 year deal, how about he does what Thierry Henry did and signs a one-year extension, stay another year with Arsenal then leave next summer (if he still feels the need) so we can still command a transfer fee for him?
