Here we have a picture taken from the Daily Mail of Thomas Vermaelen and Barcelona defender Carles Puyol at a restaurant in Ibiza.
On the face of it, it’s innocent enough, right? Well, unfortunately the image appeared on the very morning that Barcelona were linked with a move for the Arsenal vice-captain.
The Mirror, amongst others, reported today that Barca have short-listed the Belgian centre back as a potential summer signing after their move for AC Milan defender Thiago Silva hit a dead end, and should a move for Athletic Bilbao’s Javi Martinez also fail, they could move for the Arsenal stopper.
In a world when ‘tapping up’ is no longer an art under-taken in the secrecy of hotels by agents, seeing a Barca stalwart like Puyol talking with one of your best players amid rumours of interest from the club is never easy viewing.
However, i personally don’t think this picture is anything other than two footballers bumping into each other at a popular holiday resort. TV5 wont be going anywhere this summer, and the player has said as much recently, but we can’t stop the rumours circulating and a picture of Vermaelen enjoying a cosy night out with the Barca man only adds fuel to the fire I’m afraid.

I don’t think Vermaelen will be leaving Arsenal. I would be surprised if he didn’t retire an Arsenal man.

Stopping being a tool to get hits on your site. Read any of his public statement, the fact he has signed a new contract etc etc.
Realise that what you are doing stops people coming to your site – I won’t be bothered again.

@CB – If you took the time to look at my writers name you will see that i am an Arsenal fan, i don’t own the website and have no real need to increase the hits to this site. I think your being a little over sensitive here mate.

If you don’t like the FACT that TV5 was pictured with a Barca player on the same day they were linked with a move for him, don’t take it out on me. I gave a very balanced opinion on the photo, which has now been widely publicised in most of the main stream newspapers with far more sensationalist headlines. Are you not going to visit the Daily Mail again after thier story on the matter?:

F*** and double f*** , this might as well be tapping up even cesc was happy and focused with arsenal until every barcelona players convinced him to move , there like a pack of wovles , if he stays you know this won’t be the end of this , let’s hope they all can keep their mouths shut and not distract Thomas next season ,

There is no similiarity with the cesc situation. Fabregas wentback to his childhood club, I can’t see TV5 heading back to elgium any time soon.

Aside from the fact vermaelan has announced himself that he wishes to be an arsenal player for life on the back of a brand new contract, I highly doubt puyol wants to pick out his replacement, as hes still interested in playing

Oh no, van Persie was in the Dutch team with Afellay who plays for Barcelona. I’m sure I saw them in a picture together. Van Persie has been tapped up by the Af, I know it, I just know it!!! It will be all over the gutter press tomorrow!!! We are doomed!!!

I c no reason y all star players re nt decide dere future 2 live d club bcoz of wenger stiginess does nt willin 2 buy top class player so if any player want 2 move away 4rm Arsenal i supported him coz a fool at 40 is a fool 4eva.if he dosn’t achieve anytin 4 complete 7years.

I think realy it would be best if the barcelona team bus would be involved in a head on collission. Although they would then be wanting to sign a load more from arsenal

Stop hurting yourself people. It seems as if everybody in this Arselona team is ouf fan. They think they will just pick every player they want crom our team. To be honest, I think soon we are going to see players going the opposite direction especially without Guardiolla. Let the editor publish a story that Arsenal has sent Vermaellen to tap Puyol and point the picture here as evidence. Players are entitled to have friends from other teams amd they can pose for a photo anywhere they like.

Puyol is a barca legend. see nothing wrong in Verma having a pic shot with him. see nothing wrong in Verma being a fan too. Maybe someone’s gonna tell me that Arsenal are linked with every fan that has ever been in a pics with Verma. You can hate the team but don’t hate the player for no reason. they are humans like us, trying to make a decent living. The pics u’re looking at, is what sports is all about. this is stupid when he has already declared publicly, officially, and categorically, that he is loving life at arsenal and despite the offers from other clubs, is remaining at arsenal.
